Verizon HTC One Launch: May 22nd Still Possible

Published

on

Today, Verizon announced the Nokia Lumia 928, a Windows Phone 8 powered device, that will be hitting shelves on May 16th. And while that’s great news for those that have been waiting for this phone, it’s also great news for those that are waiting for another rumored Verizon smartphone, the HTC One.

After many weeks of rumor, Verizon finally decided to announce the brand new Nokia Lumia 928, a Windows Phone that will be heading to its 4G LTE network, and one that should be enticing not only to those who love Microsoft’s new software, but those who are looking for a new smartphone in general. And while the announcement has come, it has come as a bit of a surprise.

The Verizon HTC One could launch on May 22nd.

The Verizon HTC One could launch on May 22nd.

That’s because a few days ago, Verizon revealed that it would be announcing something at CTIA Las Vegas on May 22nd. Many believed that that launch event would be for the Nokia Lumia 928. Now that it’s official, that’s simply not going to be the case anymore and that now leaves the door open for another device launch.

The CTIA’s of the past were the platform for several big name smartphone launches. However, in recent years, companies have shied away from these trade shows, opting to announce big name devices at their own events. Cases in point, the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4, both of which skipped CES and MWC and CTIA.

This year’s CTIA was looking like it would follow suit, until Verizon sent out invitations for an announcement set for May 22nd. At first, some believed it might be for the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date that was still missing at the time. That turned out to be wrong. Then, many pegged the Lumia 928 for launch. Today, that turned out to be false as well. So what could it be?

At this point, fairly smart money would be riding on an HTC One announcement, after months and months of rumors. For one, a notorious HTC leakster has said that the company would be getting the device in the “near future” and a report in March claimed that the device would arrive a month or two after the other HTC One variants rolled out.

They rolled out towards the end of April so this May 22nd will land about a month after that which makes a Verizon HTC One launch at CTIA a distinct possibility.

Trade shows may be losing their luster but this event, to us, certainly could be a launching pad for Verizon’s HTC One. For one, it gives the device a little more attention than a press release and two, because the HTC One is already out, Verizon doesn’t necessarily need a gigantic stage to announce its intentions to release the device.

We should note that we haven’t seen any leaks indicating that May 22nd is the HTC One launch date but we did see a leakster say that it was possible. We think the same thing.

At this point though, when it comes to the missing Verizon HTC One, anything is possible. After today’s announcement though, May 22nd has as good of a chance as any.

Please Verizon let it be the One. My upgrade is in mid July and I’m almost considering leaving big red for AT&T of this phone.

I have always followed the principle of “choose the network first, then the phone” which is why I have been with Verizon since 1998. HOWEVER, if Verizon does not put this phone in its lineup soon, I may have to re-think that principle.

Ditto on selecting the carrier first. Also been with verizon for many years. Was aggravated when they never picked up the HTC One X.

Verizon has always had better coverage in my area, BUT AT&T has done alot of upgrading to their network the past few years in my area, making my choice to bail alot easier.

for all the people considering jumping ship. Verizon will be getting the HTC one. It’s most likely going follow a different title such as DNA 2. Be patient for its in the works. I am also just as anxious for its release but it has been confirmed though the hardware manufactures

Will also ditch Verizon if this doesn’t come out soon on the Big Red. Not interested in a bastardized “Droid” version either with a bigger screen. It’s tire for Verizon to ditch the droid branding in my opinion.

My contract is up in July. I’ll be ditching Verizon if the phone isn’t out by then.

The grass may be greener on that other side but remember that AT&T has been pretty consistent on being rated the worst customer services of all the big four. That is what will keep me from making the jump
