AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Breaks Cover
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is thought to be joining the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom in the weeks ahead and today, the device, which is a rugged version of the Galaxy S4, decided to break cover ahead of time, showing off its design and AT&T branding.
For months now, consumers have been hounded by rumors of several new Samsung Galaxy S4 variants, slated to hit shelves in the weeks after the original Galaxy S4. One of those devices, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, was announced earlier this week and will be touching down on shelves in the weeks ahead. The other two, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, which is thought to have a 16MP camera, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged Galaxy S4, remain unofficial.
Until today, we weren’t entirely sure what the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active looked like, only that it would be dust and water resistant and that it would likely be heading to AT&T’s 4G LTE network. Today, thanks to @evleaks, we now know what the Galaxy S4 Active looks like and we know that it will indeed be heading to AT&T’s network.
The device will be coming with many of the bells and whistles of the regular Galaxy S4, only, it will be coming with what appears to be a more rugged plastic design, designed to keep the elements at bay. The Galaxy S4 Active will attempt to challenge the Sony Xperia Z, Sony’s flagship, that is set to arrive in the U.S. with a design that is both water and dust resistant.
The image here also contains a date of June 21st which seems to point to an announcement either on, or before June 20th, the date on which Samsung will be hosting a media event in London, England. Already, we know the Galaxy S4 Mini will be on hand there and now, it appears we’ll get a glimpse of the Galaxy S4 Active as well.
A release date on AT&T is still unknown but a launch in June and a release shortly thereafter, possibly in July, doesn’t seem to be out of the question. Furthermore, the Galaxy S4 Mini appears to be headed to AT&T as well.
