AT&T Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean Update Now Available

Published

Several weeks after AT&T made the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update available to owners, the carrier, and Samsung, have made the update available to the original Galaxy S2 with the AT&T Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update now available through Samsung Kies.

Many weeks ago, AT&T rolled out the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Jelly Bean update, leaving owners of the original Galaxy S2 wondering when they might be getting their update to the older version of Jelly Bean. As it turns out, the update is now available to owners today through Samsung’s software, Samsung Kies.

Users are reporting that their Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update is now available through Samsung Kies, despite the lack of an announcement from AT&T. This means that the software should be available to those that download Samsung Kies, plug the device into the computer and get the software download and installation process started.

It’s not clear if the update is rolling out Over-the-Air or if it it’s going to be made available through Samsung Kies only. In the past, updates have only been made available through Kies which means Galaxy S2 owners would be wise to download and install the software on their PC.

AT&T declined comment on the update saying that it didn’t have anything to announce, yet.

The update is a long time coming and it will replace Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the device’s operating system, bringing a number of new features to the table including a smoother user interface, better multitasking, improved stock apps like browser, camera and calendar and a whole lot more. It’s a huge upgrade over Android 4.0 in terms of features.

Performance on these older devices is always hit or miss. At the moment, owners don’t seem to be complaining about the software though we could see issues pop up in the near future. The Galaxy S2 of course is now two years old, making it ancient for a smartphone.

That said, for those AT&T Galaxy S2 owners that wish to upgrade, the software seems to be available.

My Galaxy SII has just offered the upgrade over the air and is upgrading as I type (not using it clearly!)
Seems to be taking a good deal of time retrieving data from Samsung account…. am I worried? Noo…

Samsung Kies was never able to connect to my S2. It’s a known issue (across a lot of devices) and yet Samsung wants to push updates exclusively through KIES .
    Bye bye, Samsung !

Updated my S2 but beware. Phone has been running hot (like right now) and have had a few random freeze ups. Battery is taking a beating. AT&T will roll out a patch in say, 4 months or so…
