Android 4.3 Release Date: Sources Agree on July

While Google’s big Android update, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, isn’t thought to be coming until later this year, the company is believed to be coming out with another Android update for its smartphones and tablets in the form of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. And while Android 4.3 is still unofficial, it’s looking increasingly likely that Google rolls the update out

Google I/O 2013 came and went without an Android update announcement. However, Google did announce a new Nexus smartphone in the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition that arrived alongside the HTC One Google Edition yesterday with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board. However, rumors have suggested that these two devices won’t stay on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for long.

While Android 4.3 did not make an appearance at Google I/O, rumors have suggested that it could be coming out in the near future. One initial rumor, from the reliable @LLabTooFeR, a noted HTC leakster, suggested that the update would be out several weeks after the arrival of the HTC One Google Edition putting the Android 4.3 release in the month of July.

Today, that rumor was backed up by a separate report from SamMobile who claims that Samsung is currently testing Android 4.3 on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition and that it plans on releasing the software at some point in July, the same month that was previously rumored. What this means is that two reliable sources agree on a July release and paired with the rumored July launch of the Nexus 7 2 tablet, it appears that a new Android update is likely for next month.

Of course, until Google confirms, nothing is set in stone and as we’ve seen software update release dates can change. From the looks of things right now though, it’s looking like Google Edition and likely owners of the Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 will be getting Android 4.3 in just a few weeks.

Android 4.3 isn’t expected to be a large update, in fact, it’s supposed to be a Jelly Bean update. Contents of the update are said to include updates to Bluetooth and quite possibly, some bug fixes for the issues that have lingered after the arrival of Android 4.2.

Those looking for a massive Android update with tons of new features will likely have to wait until the end of the year for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie which is thought to be the true successor to Android Jelly Bean.
