While the Nexus 5 release is still likely months away, rumors continue to pop up with the latest suggesting that LG, the maker of the Nexus 4, is developing the Nexus 5 alongside the LG Optimus G2 and will be introduced sometime in October along with Google’s brand new Android operating system, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
In November, LG and Google released the Nexus 4, a device based in part on the LG Optimus G, another LG-made smartphone that made its way to AT&T and Sprint. That device continues to rank among the best Android phones on the market and there is no sign that Google is looking to replace it any time soon. Instead, rumors have pointed to a Nexus smartphone launch much later in the year, likely alongside a new, major update to the Android operating system.
So far, rumors have focused on LG as the manufacturer of the new 2013 Nexus, a device that is presumed to be called the Nexus 5. And while LG has not outright confirmed that it will be developing the new Nexus smartphone with Google, rumors, recent ones even, say otherwise.
A new report from Korean publication Daum suggests that LG is developing the Nexus 5 alongside the heavily rumored LG Optimus G2, the latter of which has leaked out numerous times and is all but confirmed for a launch in August.
Evidently, the device is slated for arrival sometime in October, the same month that Google announced the Nexus 4, and it will be equipped with the new Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie that was originally rumored for Google I/O 2013 but will likely be preceded by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Furthermore, the report claims that the Nexus 5 will use the same specifications as the LG Optimus G2 which would mean a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a display somewhere around 5-inches, 2-33GB of RAM, and a 13MP camera. LG and Google could certainly tweak both the specs and the design, the Nexus 4 did not share a design with the Optimus G, though that remains to be seen.
So while the Nexus 5 likely won’t be coming until far later this year, it’s looking increasingly likely that LG is going to be manufacturing it once again.
