iPhone 5S vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Key Things Buyers Need to Know

With the iPhone 5S release date and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date inbound, buyers are likely weighing the two big name smartphones. And while the smartphones remain unreleased, there are some key things that prospective buyers need to know when it comes to the battle between the iPhone 5S and the Galaxy Note 3.

Earlier this month, we saw the arrivals of two big name smartphones, one from Apple and one from Samsung. The first of these launches was for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which arrived on September 4th ahead of the IFA 2013 conference in Berlin, Germany. The device is set to replace the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and will be doing so with a host of features that Samsung hopes will entice smartphone shoppers around the world.

The Galaxy Note 3, like the Galaxy Note 2, launched ahead of Apple’s new iPhone. But not by much. Apple confirmed an event for September 10th, just a day before the Galaxy Note 3 launch, in an attempt to steal some thunder away from Samsung’s announcement. Apple did not confirm what would be on tap but given rumors, it was clear that it was for two new iPhones.

Rumors became reality as Tim Cook and company took the stage and showed off not one, but two new iPhone models including the plastic iPhone 5C, which is currently up for pre-order and the iPhone 5S, the true iPhone 5 successor that will be arriving in just a few days. And it will be the iPhone 5S that many consumers will look at next to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

While the Galaxy Note 3 is a niche device, thanks to its large screen and bundled S Pen, Samsung has made it attractive enough that average buyers will have it near the top of their shopping list. And the iPhone 5S, armed with its fingerprint reader, new 64-bit processor, new camera and more is sure to be at the top of lists as well. As it should be, the iPhone typically is among the best smartphone options on the market.

That said, it’s time to dig into the key things that prospective buyers need to know about the iPhone 5S versus the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ahead of their arrival.

Release Dates Are Close

Maybe the most important things that buyers need to know is that the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release dates are going to be in close proximity of each other in the United States. This is far different than last year when the iPhone 5 touched down on September 20th and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 didn’t arrive until the end of October and end of November.

Verizon will begin iPhone 5S orders at 12:01AM PST.

Verizon will begin iPhone 5S orders at 12:01AM PST.

Instead, buyers will be able to get up close with them very quickly. First up is the iPhone 5S which will be arriving on shelves on September 20th. Apple and the iPhone 5S’ carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon will start taking orders on September 20th starting at midnight PST. Later that day, the device will go on sale inside retailer stores across the United States, giving buyers a chance to go hands on before picking the device up.

Those on the fence about the iPhone 5S and Galaxy Note 3 will be happy to know that the Galaxy Note 3 will land in early October, at least on a couple of carriers. Here is how the Galaxy Note 3 release date in the U.S. breaks down at the moment.

  • AT&T – October 1st
  • T-Mobile – October 2nd
  • Verizon – Shipping by October 10th
  • Sprint – Unknown
  • U.S. Cellular – October

So the iPhone 5S release date is a little more concrete but we fully expect all five major carriers to get the Galaxy Note 3 out during the month of October. This is crucial because it means that buyers can wait, do their research, and not feel pressured to buy the iPhone 5 thanks to a massive gap in between release dates.

Galaxy Note 3 Design Catches Up

Samsung is well known for its plastic smartphone designs. The Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 all featured polycarbonate plastic designs that differed greatly from Apple’s two recent iPhone designs. The most recent, the iPhone 5, combined glass and aluminum to create a beautiful industrial design that offered a much more premium build than the Galaxy designs.

With the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung upped the ante a little bit. No, the Galaxy Note 3 isn’t a metal smartphone, but it has what it thinks is an improved design over the Galaxy Note 2. Instead of polycarbonate plastic like the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note 3 uses a faux leather back that while made of plastic, looks and feels more premium than its previous designs.

While this may not completely close the gap between the designs of the iPhone and Galaxy Note, the faux leather is indeed made of plastic, it’s an improvement and one that buyers should be keen on.

iPhone 5S: Faster, Simpler Security

One of the big improvements found on the iPhone 5S is its fingerprint reader which, in conjunction with Touch ID, will offer users a greater sense of security on their iPhone. In true Apple fashion, the company has seemingly made it extremely easy to use, which is fortunate for those that aren’t savvy with technology. In other words, it’s easy to set up and easy to use, and users will be able to get their iPhone 5S protected in no time.

The Galaxy Note 3 also comes with a big security feature though it’s not as easy to use as Apple’s iPhone 5S. Samsung Knox is the company’s security software that allows users to enterprise users to separate their work from personal use allowing them to co-exist on the device without interfering with one another.

It will help to protect those that take their device into the wild but it’s simply not going to be as intuitive and fluid to use as the embedded fingerprint reader inside the iPhone 5S.

Huge Size Difference

Another big thing that consumers should recognize when it comes to the Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5S is the huge size difference between the two devices. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is not an ordinary phone as it dwarfs not only the iPhone but many other smartphones on the market as well.

The device’s 5.7-inch display means that the device comes with a massive footprint. Samsung was able to slim it down to 8.3mm and knock its weight down to 168 grams, those down from the 9.3mm and 180 grams of the Galaxy Note 2. However, that doesn’t change the fact that this is a massive smartphone and one that could pose problems, particularly when trying to hold it with one hand.

The Galaxy Note 3 will have a larger display than the Galaxy Note 2, seen here with the iPhone 5.

The Galaxy Note 3 will have a larger display than the Galaxy Note 2, seen here with the iPhone 5.

There are, however, benefits to the size. Movies are much more pleasant to watch, playing a game is a fantastic experience and the screen real estate will really allow users to take advantage of the bundled S Pen. It also allows users to run two applications, on screen, at once, something that the iPhone 5S will simply not be able to do in iOS 7.

The iPhone 5S is much smaller than the Galaxy Note 3. It features a 4-inch Retina Display with a design that clocks in at 7.6mm and 112 grams. That’s lighter and thinner than the Galaxy Note 3. This means that it’s going to be more pocketable than the Galaxy Note 3 though with its small stature, it won’t offer up the same advantages for things like movies or gaming.

It’s a size difference that many users aren’t going to be aware of right off the bat, but it’s one that users will need to take note of before deciding on one or the other.

S Pen

There are a lot of differences between the iPhone 5S and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but one of the most important ones to recognize is the Galaxy Note 3′s bundled stylus, something that Samsung calls the S Pen.

The S Pen has been around since the original Galaxy Note though it has received several upgrades since its inception. The Galaxy Note 3 comes with the most upgrades yet as it builds upon the foundation left behind by the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note.

The S Pen is a huge feature that the iPhone 5S doesn't have.

The S Pen is something that the iPhone 5S doesn’t have access to.

It will not only come with a ergonomic S Pen, but some new functionality as well which will make the S Pen even smarter and easier to use. The S Pen experience is what makes the Galaxy Note 3 more than just a big screen smartphone. The S Pen is vital to the Galaxy Note experience and it’s something that just won’t be found on the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 5S doesn’t come with a stylus or any software that specifically takes advantage of a stylus. Both devices will be great productivity tools but for those that really need something extra, the S Pen is something that should be considered.

Big Storage/Price Difference

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will only be coming in one size, at one price point, in the United States. Carriers seem content on only offering the Galaxy Note 3 at $299.99 on-contract with 32GB of storage space. Of course, the Galaxy Note 3 comes with a microSD card slot which means that users can expand up to 98GB of storage should the need present itself.

The iPhone 5S on the other hand comes with three on-contract price points and three storage variants, which breaks down like this:

  • iPhone 5S 16GB – $199.99
  • iPhone 5S 32GB – $299.99
  • iPhone 5S 64GB – $399.99

Unlike the Galaxy Note 3, the iPhone 5S does not come with expandable memory leaving owners with the on board storage and Apple’s iCloud for expanded storage space. Galaxy Note 3 owners can also take advantage of the cloud should the need arise.

Galaxy Note 3 Price Drop

That said, we fully expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to receive a price drop promptly upon its arrival. Android phones have a habit of dropping in price on their launch day, thanks to retailers like Wirefly and Dell that often slash the pricing in order to attract consumers. We expect this to happen with the Galaxy Note 3 in October so those looking for a deal will want to wait.

Expect an improved camera with supporting software.

We saw immediate Galaxy Note 2 price cuts.

Those looking for a deal in general will want to consider this. The iPhone typically does not fluctuate in price and usually stays pretty consistent throughout the year. Yes, there will be deals, perhaps as soon as Black Friday, but they won’t be as consistent or as attractive as the Galaxy Note price drop.

Choice of Carriers

Thankfully, both devices are going to offer consumers a choice of carriers. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon will all offer both the Galaxy Note 3 and the iPhone 5S. U.S. Cellular will carry the Galaxy Note 3 as well and we have reason to believe that it is currently testing the iPhone 5S ahead of a release date.

The carrier reminded us that it has iPhone products in the pipeline so while it may not have the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on release day, it will likely have them in the near future.

A tip reveals U.S. Cellular is testing the iPhone right now.

A tip reveals U.S. Cellular is testing the iPhone right now.

Those looking to snag these devices on smaller carriers will likely have better luck with the iPhone 5S. Apple’s iPhone has, in the past, headed to pre-paid carriers like Cricket and regional carriers like C Spire Wireless. We haven’t seen any movement on this front but that’s because the iPhone 5S launch has been a strange one. Expect other carriers to announce the iPhone 5S in the future.

The Galaxy Note series on the other hand hasn’t come to smaller carriers and we don’t expect the Galaxy Note 3 to be any different.

Software Updates

Last but certainly not least, software updates. What we mean is that Apple does a far better job of keeping its iPhone updated throughout the course of the year and throughout its life time.

The iPhone 5S should see three major iOS updates before being discontinued and it should see multiple iOS 7 updates emerge in the year after its release, updates that tackle bugs and add a feature or two.

The same can’t be said for the Galaxy Note 3. Samsung has had a difficult time with the Galaxy Note series and its powerful software. For example, the AT&T Galaxy Note was missing a key feature in its Android 4.1 update, possibly due to performance, and it still has two major bugs on board months after the software arrived.

The Galaxy Note 2 still hasn’t received a significant update since its release last year and rumors point to issues that Samsung has been having with its powerful software. Updates on the Galaxy Note series are less frequent and more sporadic so those looking for better support may want to look more closely at the iPhone 5S.

The Note 3 in it’s ONE storage option is 30 something odd more than the top version of iPhone 5s. That also should tell you that size of storage shouldn’t be in your worries. The Note 3 is honestly quite non comparable to the iPhone 5s. Two different types of phones. It’s like comparing the iPhone 5s to LG L7. Just simply two different phones aimed at two different customers.

The only competition the Note 3 has is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and the soon to be announced HTC One Max.

Also, as far as updates go you can expect the Note 3 to get all the new versions of Android. What this article doesn’t state is that Samsung is usually pretty good at rolling updates. HTC? Not even close.

      Camera Features…
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has 13 megapixel rear and 2 megapixel front facing camera. Smart stabilization technology not the OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) because of supply issues. Zero shutter lag, LED/IR combo flash, 4K video recording, slow motion recording (1/4,1/2,1/8 speeds), recording 720p resolution at 120fps, 360° panorama, vertical or horizontal panorama, fast motion recording (2x,4x,8x speeds), burst shot, share shot (when taking pictures it sends it to your friends phone too if they have the S3, S4, Note 2, or Samsung wifi camera’s), buddy photo share (you can post to Facebook and or any other social network right away), take photos using voice (like cheese and smile), Dual Shot (using both front facing camera and rear camera at the sametime), Dual Recording (using both front facing camera and rear camera at the same time), Dual Video Calling (you can talk to 2 people at the same time using face time), Drama shot (multiple exposure pictures of a moving subject and merges them in to one picture), Eraser (takes 5 sequential shots to be able to erase any moving subject from the background), Sound and Shot (puts a 9 second sound with picture), 16:9 aspect ratio pictures, Animated Photo GFI ( 8 second clip you’ll see options to animate or freeze objects, playback to move backwards, forward or in a back and forth loop. I see this as like what you see on Harry Potter pictures) and everything the Samsung Galaxy S4 has with improvements.

IPhone 5S has a 8 megapixel rear and a 1.2 front facing camera. Slightly larger sensor for better low light from the IPhone 5, reworked five-element lens with a larger f/2.2 Aperture, and bigger 1.5 microns pixel. OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer), Dual LED Flash “true tone” (one white one yellow to prevent the washed out look), Burst Shot (10 pictures per second), panorama picture taking, slow-motion video (120fps at 720p resolution), and everything the IPhone 5 had with improvements.

That is what I can get with the research I did and what the companies would give out.

Note 3 obliterates anything in its path, from big crisp AMOLED, 32gb storage + SD card. Iphone,Nexus are all useless with compromises. From iPhail closed OS to Nexus shitty storage with NO SD CARD..Samsung gives a F about customers choices..

  3. Nate says

Samsung paid shills still out doing their job! You can tell by their imperfect English… Lets face it, Apple reinvigorated the phone market and the others have been trying to catch up. If you want a huge phone…use Samsung. If you want a fantastic phone that will fit in your pocket with fantastic apps… Choose Apple.

    • F. Diaz (Cubamus Prime) says

Sorry Nate but reality, Apple iOS is restricted and closed..I am not getting paid by no one. I was an iOS user since the iPhone 4 days. I got tired of their bullshit policies and not letting me do what I want with my phone. I loved Jailbreaking it but got tired of the cat and mouse game..I will admit, iOS does have more quality Apps than Android. But that was 2 years ago when Android was garbage on 2.3 (Gingerbread) days. Now ever since it got a huge boost in performance and visuals, the apps on Android has caught up with iOS in quality. That is all i can say..Bye..And I chose Samsung because they still put SD cards on their phones.

    • Ron says

Apple revolutionized the cell phone market, then stagnated while Samsung and other forward thinking companies moved ahead with innovative features and specs. There’s no real competition here. If you want simplicity and don’t care for superior display, memory and processing power (not to mention the versatility of Android OS), then get that new iPhone.

    • joe says

Your a idiot. People buy iphones cause they aren’t smart enuogh to work a real phone.. Samsung note series best phones on the market..

  4. Dan says

Love my Note II. it’s been great having it. The screen size was the main reason I got it to begin with. But, the lack of support it receives is what is making me go to an iPhone this Friday. I know I’ll get support if I have one. Also, don’t care if iOS7 rips off android, because I like android. After using my iPod touch 5th gen, I think I would like an iPhone. The camera it is going to have also interests me. The Note II has a good camera, if you stand there and fudge with it for a few seconds, something I hate. I’m interested in seeing what game developers can do with the coprocessor and 64bit system. Maybe I’ll be back for the Note IV. If another phablet doesn’t rise up like Sony might.

    • C. Bolt says

Support? I have an Iphone 4s and galaxy note 2. I don’t really need support for either phone. My carrier did replace my iphone 4s when the speaker went out within the year. However I don’t see why they wouldn’t do the same for my Note 2. I’m confused by the need for Support.

      • Dan says

I mean that I want android version 4.3 I’m tired of being two updates behind. The fragmentation of the market breeds greatness but also has its pitfalls. Apple keeps their stuff up to date. Still torn about what to do because of how much I love my note. But playing with someone’s iPhone at work several times with iOS 7 makes me think I could dig iPhone 5s.

  5. LBX says

I’m not even sure how we compare these two phones as they are not in the same category…Galaxy Note series is for people more concerned about using their device for non-phone-call communications while the iphone still straddles the old phone-first device. I get a kick out of seeing my wife try to type a message scrolling up and down; squinting to read a webpage on her iphone.

So making one-hand phone calls or trying to fit a phone in a tiny pocket is a minor inconvenience for us Note users as we prefer the larger screen real-estate; s-pen and huge memory expandibility amongst other things..

Those that love the iphone….more grease to your elbows…..but it just does not come close to meeting the needs of the majority of Note users…

  6. TAUSMC says

@ Adam Mills… I just wanted to let you know I have seen 2 mistake in your column. One is in you 2nd paragraph “The device is set to replace the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and will be doing so with a host of features that Samsung hopes will entice smartphone shoppers around the world.”. It is suppose to be the device is set to replace the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The second mistake is in the 2nd paragraph of the Huge Size Difference section. The Galaxy Note 2 weighs 183 grams not 168 grams like the Note 3 does. Figured I would let you know.

Also I would like to let you know this article has been the best balanced article I have seen when it comes to Iphone 5S vs the Galaxy Note 3. Most other articles are always biased twards the IPhone 5S and 5C.

  7. Joe D. says

I’ve been a dedicated Mac user for over 12 years now, and even I can’t put my money behind any Apple “iProducts” because of all the restrictions and built-in bullshit. Not when theres better offerings from the competition. Aside from the issues the 5S suffers in lacking a memory card slot, smaller screen, and nothing like the S-pen, here’s a few other embellishments I would add: The 5S has a whopping 1 Gb of RAM onboard, while the Note 3 has 3 Gb of RAM. The rear camera on the 5S is 8 Mpxls while the Note 3 has a 13 Mpxl camera. The 5S uses a propritary cable and port to physically connect to anything, while the Note 3 uses an industry standard USB 3.0 port. The 5S is quoted at having a battery life of 10 hours, while the Note 3 doubles that with up to 20 hours. The Note 3 also has NFC technology and a built in infra-red transmitter.
I’ll definately be waiting to buy an unlocked 64 Gb version of the Note 3 when they become available.

    • TAUSMC says

The Note 3 also uses the standard micro USB for charging. So people can still use their old chargers or friends chargers.

The Note 2 Battery life is: talk time 35 hours, talk time 3G 16 hours, Video time 12 hours, standby time 980 hours, and standby time 3G 890 hours. I usually get on average with medium to heavy use 1 day 6 hours on my Note 2. I do get around 12 hours when watching Netflix.

Samsung said the Note 3 because of better power consumption with the smart CPU they get 30% longer battery life. With that in mind that means the Note 3 battery life is: talk time 45.5 hours, talk time 3G 20.8 hours, Video time 16 hours, standby time 1274 hours, and standby time 3G 1157 hours. I guess we will see when it comes out and see the specs.

I send this so you will have more information. I totally agree with your comment.

    • Darktanone says

The net worth of all those supposed advantages in specs and features is nil. There’s no appreciable advantage over the iPhone. The real reason behind the larger devices is simply because they can’t produce a smaller device to match the power, battery life and efficiency of the iPhone. Each upgrade to Android requires a more powerful processor and more memory. Anybody can build a large phone. That’s easy. Try building a smaller phone to match the iPhone. They can’t! On the other hand, Apple can build a larger phone that would simply blow Android devices away. It’d be no contest. To me, the investment in Android is a waste.

  8. ardon says

The samsung note 3 is the Ferrari of smartphones, the iphone5s is like a gocart of smartphones, so please stop comparing them. Use some of that objective journalistic observation skils you have.

    • Darktanone says

Yeah, right! I see all Samsung devices like that bike with tassels on the handle bars, flags, popcicle sticks in the spokes, white striped sidewalls, banana seats with sissy bars, trumpet shaped air horn and painted in lime green. Nothing but gimmicks! It’s laughable, really, that the iPhone 5s should be compared to this junk. Compare the iPhone 5s to its only competition, the iPhone 5. The rest are just derivatives!

  9. ardon says

    Repeating
use some of that objective journalistic observation skills you have. Better yet buy a note 3 and use it in your profession.

  10. Kevin spoon says

I traded in my galaxy note 2 at bestbuy for $300 bucks and will use that credit to buy the note3 when released by sprint. It’s a no brainer for me.

  11. wagg says

I am a apple lover, i moved over to the iMacs from pc’s 2 years ago, i have own all the iphones from the very 1st iPhone (yes i was one them idiots that waited in line for it), love my iPads. my 1st android phone was the Dell streak5, i like it but it launch with outdated Android. But i still thought the Android was more advance than IOS. Then came the Galaxy Note such a kick ass phone! I bought the iPhone 5 and took it back 8 days later. then the best phone of all.. came the Note 2.. i did not think the Note 3 would be able to impress me over the note 2 but it did, so i order it. I told my wife i was going to get her the Macbook air she was happy until she saw the video for the new Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition tablet. i am not loyal to any BRAND when it comes to technology! but as of now Samsung keeps taking my money…

I get why some people still like iPhones and if you are one of them thats fine, but don’t tell people who wants more then what the iphone offers… you shouldn’t want that. Thats call “apple thinking”..

    • Eric says

Nice. I also was a die hard apple fan. But after I got the htc one I’m a new android believer. Now with the note 3 Samsung can have my money. My only question is when does it hit stores so I can stand outside and get one lol

      • TAUSMC says

Its supposed to hit the stores:
        AT&T – October 1st
        T-Mobile – October 2nd
Verizon – Shipping by October 10th
        Sprint – Unknown
        U.S. Cellular – October

Anyone who has Sprint needs to write or call them and bitch about them not bring out the Note 3 around the same time as everyone else. They are pulling what Verizon did last year. I’m sure if enough people complain then this will not happen next year. Just like Verizon uped their game this year because of the complaints last year.

  12. oldm8-420 says

what is the point in this article lol its pretty obvious that there is no competition here. when will the world realise that apple is overpriced crap.

  13. Captain says

5s means same shit 6 means same shit 6s means same shit and probably company close out sale, Apple must be laughing their balls off for reaping off their loyal iPhone crazy customers for selling the same shit over and over and over again with higher price. I used to love iPhone few years back until I realize that change is the most important thing in life and I switched to Samsung and never looking back to rip-off apple in this life, They used to be a lead company now days they have to take ideas from company like Nokia who had fingerprints long back.

  14. Nick V says

these two phones really shouldn’t even be compared. they aren’t even targeting the same market.

but since we’re doing it. NOTE 3!!!!!

  15. Riggzie says

I usually read forums, blogs, posts by a simple google search… which lead me here and I usually dont reply but have to on this one…

We have both in our household… well more..
we have 5 PC’s, 3 laptops all running Windows… I refuse to let an apple computer in the house as I dont want to support it!!!!!

    we have 2 x ipod 4′s, 1 x ipod 5 and 1 iphone 4s. In addition we have a Samsung Galaxy SII (Mine)….

I thought of going to the dark side… and say screw it.. but I just cant.
My neighbor had a flip phone… it broke and he didnt want to go to android (this was about 2yrs ago)… but the flip phone was $199 and an android was free through Verizon so he took the plunge. He is in an band and has many needs as the band is very successful. he has since gone through a few phones due to upgrading and loving each upgrade….. Recently he got on his motorcycle to realize his phone was in his back pocket and guess what.. cracked.. so he went to Best Buy (as that is who he buys through) and they said for him to choose a loaner phone while they get his fixed. (and this is why I will be buying through BB instead of the local Sprint store!!!!!). He thought well might as well checkout this iPhone 5 and see what the hype was. I didnt know he had one and while in his garage watching a Phillies game and having a cold one he took it out of his pocket and said… Hey Look What I Got!!!!… I went awww cmon dude really!?!?!?!??!! He then turned and said.. I CANT WAIT TO GET MY ANDROID BACK CUZ THIS THING EFFIN SUCKS!!!! He was used to his Android and loved it and said the iPhone felt like a toy so he is now back on his Android and loving it.
With that though he bought his daughter a macbook air??? im not up on them but think that is what it was and the same thing.. cost cost cost… that is what he griped about it…

so now in my house… kids use ipods (2) and so does the wife who also owns an iphone. When Sprint finally decides to release the Note III it will be by my bedside and the iPhone 5 will be by my wifes bedside.
We both grab each others phones and dont know what to do with it. To me the I-products are ok for movies, games and web…

I constantly joke with my wife.. we are out.. and walking around all day and her iphone is dying.. she will say hey im going to shut my phone off.. is your battery ok? I say.. nope since I went to JellyBean my battery life really sucks… then I power my phone off…

difference now is that I remove my battery and throw my extended battery in and power back on and im good ALL DAY!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

I also have a windshield mount for mine.. I love it… right there so I hope someone makes one for the Note 3 as this is almost a requirement for me. I like to have a powered one where it also has audio out so i can go into my truck aux jack. so will see…

on the app side.. they each have their great apps.. for me I love one of the astrology apps as i forget the name right now but it is on apple only…
but then there is an app I just LOVE… torque pro on Android.. I use it all the time and it is just great. I havent looked recently but the developer only put it on Android.. so no apple…

we have each and will always in my house….

I am going note 3 as my eyes are going bad and I want a bigger screen. While the wife loves her iPad.. I dont have a tablet at all yet.. because Samsung will be getting my money once again on a Windows 8 Samsung Tablet – once again a real do it all tablet (heavy photoshop user, premiere user and other photography editing apps.)

    • TAUSMC says

With the Note 3 you wouldn’t have to worry about Battery Life. My Note 2 I average 1 day 6 hours on medium to heavy use. If I’m watching Netflix, I get 12 hours of battery life. Samsung said the Note 3 does have 30% better battery life then the Note 2. I have the whole break down on an earlier comment.

If you want a windshield mount that will work, I would recommend the Gripgo (As seen on tv). I have one and it works great. You can find it on ebay or probably at Walmart. You can stick any phone on it. If you don’t want to go that way, I’m sure they will have a windshield mount for the Note 3. Maybe the Note 2 windshield mount would work too because the phones are practicallythe same size.

  16. sam says

i hate samsung…..coz i have visited service center whole year to solve the problem facing 0n note 2 …….customer care doing nothing for that….cant do another mistake buying note3…. iphone is best as always than samsung with the features without quality…

No samsung again , after the note 2 software upgrade all bugs are there , will buy 5s definitely
