Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Arriving October 10

Samsung’s latest iteration of its Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet will be hitting store shelves on October 10, with pre-orders starting tomorrow at a handful of retailers. Aptly called the “2014 Edition,” the latest Galaxy Note 10.1 will be available in the US next month in either black or white color options, priced at $550 for the 16GB version and the 32GB flavor costing $600.

If you’re still on the fence, Samsung is upping the ante by offering three months of Hulu Plus, a one-year subscription to Boingo hotspots, 50GB of extra Dropbox storage, a 12-week subscription to the New York Times and a full year of Bloomberg Businessweek — all for free when you buy the new tablet.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition was briefly unveiled at Samsung’s September 4 event during IFA 2013. The Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch were the headliners of the show, so the new Galaxy Note 10.1 slate didn’t get a lot of attention.

One of the big new features of the tablet is the high-resolution 2,560 x 1,600 display to take on Apple’s Retina display on the iPad. The new Galaxy Note 10.1 also packs Samsung’s Exynos 5420 quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. The tablet also rocks a microSD card slot, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and an LED flash.

Of course, though, the tablet also comes with S Pen, which is one of the features that makes this tablet stand out from the rest of the tablets on the market. However, the price tag may turn away some consumers, but it seems like Samsung is betting on the hundreds of dollars of free digital content that you’ll get when you buy the tablet.

Then again, the Nexus 10 is a big competitor to Samsung’s tablet game, and with a starting price of just $399 for the Nexus 10, many users will have a hard time coming up with a reason to buy the new Galaxy Note 10.1, especially when a better Nexus 10 is rumored to be right around the corner. With that said, it’ll take some clever marketing for Samsung to persuade tablet buyers to get the Galaxy Note 10.1 over the iPad and Nexus 10, but the Korean company does have a lot going for them as far as their exclusive S Pen technology, so we’ll see how far that takes them in the tablet market.
