Android 4.4.1 KitKat Update Release Nears

By  |  1 Comment

A new Android 4.4.1 KitKat update has been rumored for arrival on the HTC One Google Play Edition, a sign that other devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 could potentially be getting their first major incremental Android 4.4 KitKat update since the arrival of their original KitKat updates back in late November.

Last month, Google finally started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update to devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. However, the Nexus devices were not alone. They were joined by a handful of other devices including the HTC One Developer Edition, the Moto X, and Google’s Google Edition smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S4 GPe and the HTC One GPe.

Since then, we’ve been hearing about scattered Android 4.4 KitKat update problems and it appears that users dealing with KitKat issues might wind up seeing a bug fix update, or at least the first substantial incremental Android 4.4 KitKat update, in the not so distant future.

While nothing is set in stone, HTC ROM developer and insider LLabTooFeR claims that the HTC One Google Play Edition, will be seeing an Android 4.4.1 KitKat update roll out in the near future. He claims that the build is going to be KOT49E. Other than that, the contents of the update are unknown and we haven’t seen HTC or Google confirm anything for the HTC One GPe or any other devices.

If the HTC One is set to get Android 4.4.1, we imagine that other devices could be in line as well. In the past, we’ve seen Google roll out incremental updates to specific devices but we haven’t heard about any major bugs impacting the HTC One and the HTC One only, meaning, a more widespread roll out seems possible at this point.

The rumor is reliable, given who it is coming from, and that means that HTC One Google Play Edition users, at the very least, should see an update roll out soon. Exactly when, may not be known until the update starts pushing to owners.

Over the past few days, we’ve heard from a number of Nexus owners, including Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 users who are dealing with assorted issues. Perhaps this Android 4.4.1 KitKat update will be the remedy those users are looking for.

We will definitively see it on nexus devices. Here for example a KOT49 build on a Nexus 5 (showing android 4.4.1) is appearing in logs: http://www.handsetdetection.com/properties/vendormodel/Google/Nexus%205/page:3
