Droid DNA Android 4.4 KitKat Update Isn’t Coming Anytime Soon

Published

Droid DNA owners should not be expected the Droid DNA Android 4.4 KitKat update to roll out anytime soon as HTC now says that the update will be landing at the end of the first quarter which likely means a roll out in the month of March.

HTC confirmed the Droid DNA Android 4.4 KitKat update many weeks ago, saying that the update would be landing for owners sometime in the first quarter of the year. The company has not committed to a specific date nor has it said what will be on board the update when it finally does arrive for Droid DNA owners on Verizon.

The company has, however, let a key detail slip this week with Mo Versi, HTC’s Executive Director of Product Management saying that the update will roll out at the end of the first quarter. This is the most specific time frame that we’ve seen HTC give in regard to the Droid DNA Android 4.4 KitKat update and it means that Droid DNA owners shouldn’t be sitting by their phone.

The end of the first quarter likely means March, a month that is several weeks away. There is, of course, always the possibility that things will get fouled up. We saw it happen with the Verizon HTC One Android 4.3 update which was promised in the fall but didn’t roll out until December. We’ve seen delays with other Verizon HTC phones in the past as well.

It’s still not clear what will be on board the update though we imagine that it will probably include Sense 5.5 and not Sense 6. Sense 5.5 is the latest update to Sense that offers new functionality and enhances features already on board. Sense 6 is the software that is rumored to be coming with HTC’s new One, rumored to be debuting in February.

It’s possible that HTC will skip Sense 5.5 and move straight to Sense 6 but at this point, given the target release date, this is unlikely.

I kind of figured that anyway, sice they specified Jan/Feb for the One, while they said simply Q1 for the DNA. I’m just happy to at least have Sense 5/4.2.2, considering my last phone, the Inc2, never got any love at all.
