HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Lands for Some Users (Update)

The HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat update roll out has begun, it seems, as French carrier SFR says that its HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update is now available Over-the-Air.

Update: SFR has backtracked and says that the update isn’t out and that it won’t arrive until February.

In November of last year, HTC announced an ambitious Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out. The company said that it would deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to the Google Play Edition within 15 days of the initial Android 4.4 announcement. It also claimed that it would push out the Developer Edition within 30 days and that the regular old HTC One would get Android 4.4.2 KitKat within 90 days, or, by the end of January.

HTC kept its promise, pushing out both the updates to the HTC One Google Play Edition and Developer Edition within the time frame the company had suggested. Up until today, we hadn’t seen any movement in regard to the missing HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update, an update that was announced for arrival by the end of January and rumored for both January and February.

French carrier SFR, a carrier known for its frequent updates about software updates, says that its HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is now available Over-the-Air for its customers. The update, it seems, has been available since this morning. The carrier didn’t provide any details, only saying that the update is rolling out to its customers.

If this is true, and it appears that it is despite the carrier initially saying a release would arrive in February, it would be the first HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update to land for the regular Sense version of HTC’s current flagship. It also falls in line with what one HTC insider said about the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update and its release window.

It’s still not clear when the update will be landing in the United States. HTC continues to say that the update is on track for a release by the end of January though we still haven’t seen any further confirmation. That SFR has apparently rolled out its Android 4.4 KitKat update is a good sign for other carriers.

The Android 4.4 KitKat update in the U.S. is expected to bring the new Sense 5.5 update that enhances and fixes many of the features inside Sense 5 including Zoe and BlinkFeed. HTC is expected to reveal the new Sense 6 in the next few weeks though it’s not clear if the HTC One will get upgraded with HTC’s rumored UI update.
