HTC One Sense 6 Update “Confirmed”

on

According to a well-known HTC leakster, an upcoming HTC One Sense 6 update is confirmed and its release should come in the latter part of the summer or in the fall.

In a few weeks, possibly as soon as next month, HTC is expected to debut an HTC One successor that is currently dubbed HTC M8. The device is rumored to have a number of upgrades including a larger display and a new version of Sense that is currently being dubbed, Sense 6 or Sense 6.0. Sense 6 rumors aren’t plentiful but they do exist. LlabTooFeR, a noted HTC insider, claims that the Sense 6 update will feature a new HTC Blinkfeed with a new interface and homescreens redesigned for better interaction. He has also said that there will be on-screen keys instead of capacitive touch buttons of old, but that the overall look of Sense 6 will be the same black, grey, and white color scheme HTC always uses.

The update is expected to land first on the HTC M8 though it now appears that the update will land for at least one of the device’s in HTC’s current arsenal. Unsurprisingly, it’s the HTC One that is thought to be getting the next version of HTC Sense.

According to LlabTooFeR, a Sense 6 update to the HTC One is “confirmed.” He typically has access to inside information so while HTC itself hasn’t confirmed it, HTC One owners can start banking on another major update to their user interface. The UI was recently upgraded to Sense 5.5, an update that brought some incremental improvements, and will be rolling out to HTC One owners in the U.S. once Android 4.4 KitKat arrives.

He says that the update will be landing in late summer or in the fall though he declines to offer specifics about the release, probably because HTC itself hasn’t set up a specific release date. It’s also not clear what version of Android will accompany the update though it could be something different than Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The company communicates frequently with its customer base so it could be that the update will be confirmed shortly after its arrival alongside the HTC M8 later this year.

Unfortunately, the update has only been outed for the HTC One. None of the other devices on his list currently make the cut though we imagine that devices like the HTC One mini and HTC One max, devices that arrived after the HTC One, will certainly be in the mix when it comes to Sense 6. Devices like the HTC One X and HTC One X+, which are remaining on Android 4.2 and Sense 5, are out.

LlabTooFeR also “confirms” several Android 4.4 KitKat updates including updates for the HTC Butterfly and HTC Butterfly S. Those updates should follow the HTC One, HTC One max and HTC One mini Android 4.4 KitKat updates, all of which are expected to roll out sometime between now and the middle of next month.

That’s all swell but in America we are still waiting for the Kit Kat upgrade and Sense 5.5.
HTC claimed we would see that in late January. Uh, it’s late January!
