Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Release: Update Arrives, Verizon MIA

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release continues in the United States as the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update becomes the latest KitKat update to emerge for users inside the U.S. Its arrival also means that the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release will be the last amongst major carriers.

Several weeks ago, Samsung began rolling out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update to users inside the United States. Sprint was the first carrier to push out the update and it was followed by U.S. Cellular and AT&T. Today, a fourth carrier has joined the party as T-Mobile announced the arrival of its own Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

The update was expected to be next in line given that T-Mobile already rolled out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and given that the update had been teased, for several days, on T-Mobile’s website. Today, T-Mobile confirmed our expectations with a Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out that is now pushing out Over-the-Air and and through Samsung Kies.

Those who want to avoid waiting simply need to download and install Samsung Kies and pull the update through their PC. Those who aren’t as impatient can wait for the update to arrive Over-the-Air.

The change log for the update remains missing in action though we expect Samsung to update its support page with all of its features sometime later today. The update is expected to be similar to the AT&T, U.S. Cellular and Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates that rolled out to owners earlier this year.

Those updates featured a lot of Android 4.4 KitKat features but went light on other changes. Samsung appears to be saving major upgrades to TouchWiz for a future Android update.

The release of the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update means that the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update will, as expected, be the last major Android 4.4 KitKat update to arrive in the United States. The update remains missing in action and Verizon still hasn’t confirmed it for arrival.

Of course, when it does arrive, it probably won’t be the last Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update overall. Smaller pre-paid and regional carriers are likely cooking up Android 4.4 KitKat updates as well and carriers like C Spire Wireless and Cricket Wireless should push out their updates in the future as well.

Whether or not the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update beats them to the punch remains to be seen.
