How to Watch the NBA Playoffs Live on Android

Published

on

With the NBA Basketball regular season winding down, teams are resting players and preparing for something even more exciting, playoffs. Everything kicks off on April 19th and for the first time in NBA history the Lakers, Celtics, and New York Knicks are all missing from the playoffs.

It’s the first time in history all three teams missed the playoffs at the same time, but that doesn’t mean it will be any less exciting. In fact, there’s plenty of other teams and players ready to shine and steal the spotlight, and if you want to catch every quarter we’ll help you do exactly that.

For those looking to enjoy the NBA Playoffs while on the go, or if traveling and only have a mobile device, we have you covered. There isn’t as many options as we’d like, and most will cost the user money, but it’s worth it for many to be able to watch their team during a big game, no matter where they are.

NBA-android

The first and main option will be the NBA League Pass, which offers live streams of the games, including the playoffs, news, stats, scores, alerts and more. This does cost a one-time fee, which is now gone since the season is essentially over and playoffs have started. This is available on both Android and for iPhone or iPad.

To enjoy the NBA League Pass on Android you’ll need the official NBA Game time 2014 Android app. Once you download the app the league pass works to deliver all the content. This is $55 for the regular season ($40 for Sprint users) but with the season over you’ll only be paying $16.99 for the entire playoffs.

We’re hearing there will be a free trial for the 19-20th for those curious and don’t want to spend the $17 right away, but have yet to fully confirm that. The app will require users to sign into their NBA League Pass account, then you’re set.

The $16.99 Playoffs pass is also discounted for Sprint users, and will only be $13.59, but this is for Android or iOS smartphones only, no tablets are included in that discount. Sadly users will need to spend more money if they want to watch from an iPad or Android tablet, instead of one subscription works for all, which is a bummer.

So what do you get from NBA League Pass? You’ll be able to watch each and every playoff game live, but local blackout restrictions still apply. Meaning you may or may not be able to watch a certain team based on your location. You can try to bypass these blackouts, but we offer no guarantee that it’ll work.

If you’re not too worried about live streams and will DVR it, but still want all the details as soon as possible the Game Time 2014 app is still an excellent choice. It offers tons of features all for free, and you’ll only have to pay for the NBA playoff live streams. Some of the free features include scores, schedules, stats, highlights, replays and more. You can even set reminders for when games begin. Samsung users also get a special treat with exclusive team wallpapers, lockscreen images, and details. So that’s nice.

Last but not least users that are paying subscribers to cable companies such as Cox, Comcast, Dish Network, Google Fiber, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and others you can use the NBA Gametime app to stream games, just sign in with the appropriate details, rather than paying for the League Pass.

WatchESPN

Another excellent choice for those looking to enjoy or live stream the NBA playoffs on an Android device is the popular WatchESPN app. We use it all the time, and if you’re a paying subscriber to any of the networks mentioned above, and more, you can sign in to WatchESPN and watch the games that way too.

ESPN

Along with tons of scores, alerts, highlight clips, and analysis from ESPN, you can also stream games from multiple channels. Sometimes WatchESPN will stream games from other networks, like TNT last year, but we’re not sure what to expect or how many will make it to their streaming options in 2014.

If you have cable you probably won’t need to worry about watching the games live. However, if you’re out and about, WatchESPN is one of the best options around.

It’s worth noting that both apps mentioned above work best on a WiFi connection, but will stream the games and content over 3G and 4G LTE. That being said, streaming NBA playoff games can and will go through your carrier data limit extremely quick. Unless you have an unlimited data connection, you may want to switch to WiFi when possible.

Of course Apple TV, XBox and Playstation, and even the new Kindle Fire TV all have ways users can enjoy these games. Most of which will require a League Pass still, but it’s worth mentioning.

Slingbox

Of course the Slingbox and Slingplayer is another option for those who’ve already paid for and enjoy it. This is a device that connects to the users TV service at home, work, or anywhere with an internet connection and then streams it over Slingbox servers. The mobile app is $15, but if you already have this setup, you’ll be able to stream all the NBA Playoff games with ease to any mobile device or browser. Just tune into any of the channels with a game you’d like to enjoy, and stream it to your device of choice.

This option isn’t cheap, but Slingbox has loyal users because the service works, and it works well.

Other Methods

If the above options or prices don’t work for you, there’s other ways. There’s always those “shady methods” of apps and websites full of pop-ups, ads, and junk that can be harmful. While we don’t recommend these, or will link to them, there’s a few popular ones like Justin.TV or USTREAM. Not to mention plenty of apps on the Google Play Store, but again, use caution.

Those looking to enjoy the NBA Playoffs on Android while on the go, your best bet is the official NBA Game Time 2014 app and a paid subscription to watch the playoffs. Good luck, and watch out for those LeBron dunks.

You cannot subscribe to the LeaguePass anymore since the regular season has ended. This option has ended 3 days ago. Please update your article.
