Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Release Date: 15 Things to Expect

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date is fast approaching and prospective buyers are starting to weigh the rumored Galaxy Note 3 successor against other top devices including Apple’s rumored iPhone 6. In effort to help prepare those interested in the new Galaxy Note release, we want to take a look at what we expect from the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date.

In January, a Samsung executive confirmed the company’s plan to release a brand new Galaxy Note model this fall. The device, the fourth-generation Galaxy Note, is currently dubbed Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and it’s expected to come with a number of upgrades that set it apart from its predecessor.

Over the last seven months, we’ve heard a number of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rumors. While those rumors have primarily been about the Galaxy Note 4 specs, we’ve started to hear quite a bit about the Galaxy Note 4 launch date and the Galaxy Note 4 release date.

Galaxy Note 4 Features

Galaxy Note 4 launch date rumors firmed up earlier this week when Samsung issued an invite to a September 3rd Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany. September 3rd was rumored to be the Galaxy Note 4 launch date and the invitation all but confirmed Samsung’s plans. With a launch date planned for September 3rd, it’s clear that the Galaxy Note 4 release is just around the corner.

While Galaxy Note 4 release date details have been a tad scarce, we have enough information and enough experience with Samsung Galaxy releases to make some predictions about how the Galaxy Note 4 release date will play out. This is what we expect from the Galaxy Note 4 release date and these are the things that we think prospective buyers will want to keep in mind as we head closer to September 3rd and the fall.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Release Date Announcement

The first thing to expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date is an official announcement at its Unpacked event, expected to take place on September 3rd in Berlin, Germany ahead of the IFA 2014 trade show.

In addition to confirming the Galaxy Note 4 specs and software, we expect Samsung to deliver a Galaxy Note 4 release date to consumers around the world. We expect specifics on stage as the company looks to establish the Galaxy Note 4 as a serious competitor this fall. Without release date specifics, it’s going to hard for consumers to buy in, especially with an iPhone 6 lurking on the horizon.

Look for Samsung to do what it did at both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 Unpacked events and confirm a very specific global Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date on stage.

Galaxy Note 4 Pre-Orders

We expect carriers and retailers around the world to offer Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders ahead of the Galaxy Note 4 release date. We almost always see pre-orders for Android flagships, both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 in the days ahead of their respective release dates, and there is a good chance that carriers will look to offer Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders to those that decide early.

The only way that we won’t see a pre-order is if Samsung decides to release the Galaxy Note 4 almost immediately after the event. While this could be the case, we almost always see a gap between launch and release. So in our eyes we’ll either see a release that’s too quick for pre-orders or Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders. It should be a win-win for those that are looking to snag the Galaxy Note 4.

Incentive to Pre-Order

Android pre-orders aren’t always necessary, especially when they’re for a niche device like the Galaxy Note, but we expect there to be at least one incentive for those that put in an order early.

Galaxy Note 4 S Pen

Should carriers offer Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders, we fully expect them to deliver those pre-orders a day or two ahead of the actual Galaxy Note 4 release date. We’ve seen carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile deliver shipments a few days before the actual in-store release date, something that gives a little bit of purpose to these early orders.

If there are Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders, expect carriers to offer this unannounced incentive along with them.

Galaxy Note 4 Release in September

At this point, we’re fully expecting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date to take place in the month of September. Galaxy Note 4 release rumors continue to point to a release inside of September. Rumors have suggested that we could see Samsung push the Galaxy Note 4 out faster than last year’s Galaxy Note 3.

The Galaxy Note 3 launch took place on September 4th and Samsung released it on September 25th. It was an extremely fast turnaround for Samsung. So if the Galaxy Note 4 is released sooner than that, we could perhaps see a gap of two weeks or so.

Samsung is reportedly working to get it out quickly in an effort to better compete with the iPhone 6, also expected in September. With iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note 4 release rumors centered on September, it’s hard to expect a Galaxy Note 4 release outside of next month.

Go ahead and circle September in pencil at this point.

U.S. Galaxy Note 4 Release Dates

It’s hard to predict how the Galaxy Note 4 release in the United States will work. U.S. releases are often unpredictable, especially when there are multiple slated to happen at the same time. In this case, the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to arrive in and around the iPhone 6, something that could potentially lead to uneven release dates in the United States.

We expect Galaxy Note 4 release dates in the United States to at least be in close proximity to each other. Carriers released the Galaxy S5 in and around the same date and the Galaxy Note 3 release saw the very same thing. Gone are the days when carriers used to release devices weeks or in some cases months after the competition.

Galaxy Note 4 Speakers

Look for U.S. carriers to get the Galaxy Note 4 out in close proximity to one another as they attempt to lure customers to their 4G LTE networks.

Release During the Week

Samsung and its carrier partners never release flagship smartphones on the weekend. Instead, they release these devices during the working week when people are more apt to follow news and take time out of their schedule to go into a store to buy a device.

The past two Galaxy Note models arrived on Wednesday. The Galaxy Note 2 touched down on September 26th, 2012 while the Galaxy Note 3 arrived on September 25th, 2013. Wednesday is not a guarantee but given Samsung’s pattern, it’s the most likely of the bunch. At the very least, expect the device to arrive between Monday and Friday.

Normal Store Hours

Android phones are certainly popular but their launches still don’t get the same kind of attention that Apple’s iPhone launches do. So, we almost never see retailers and carrier stores open up early to accommodate those that want to buy these devices. Expect stores to open up at their usual time on the Galaxy Note 4 release day and for lines to be non-existent.

Easy to Find Galaxy Note 4

Again, this is an Android smartphone and a niche one at that and thus we expect the Galaxy Note 4 to be easy to find. We should see Samsung and its carrier partners manage to keep it in stock from pre-order to release and we should see stores fully stocked with units on release day. We almost never see Android devices sell out and we’re not expecting the Galaxy Note 4 to offer anything different.

If you want this phone on day one you should be able to find it no problem.

Widespread Availability

We fully expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to be available in a number of different locations including carrier stores and well known retailers like Best Buy. Samsung and Best Buy have a close partnership so we expect it to land there, at the very least.

Galaxy Note 4 Display

Don’t be surprised if other retail locations like RadioShack and Walmart also offer the Galaxy Note 4. Amazon, another well known retailer, will almost certainly have the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 available on day one as well.

Limited Accessories on Release Day

We should see a healthy selection of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 accessories emerge on the device’s first day of availability but there is a very good chance that we’ll see many accessories miss the device’s initial release date.

In particular, official Samsung accessories have been known to arrive several weeks late. Samsung did a bunch better job with its Galaxy S5 accessories but we still expect there to be some accessories that are released after a slight delay.

Galaxy Note 4 Bundles

If Samsung does announce new wearables at the Galaxy Note 4 event, and rumors suggest that it will, we could potentially see Samsung bundle up those wearables with the Galaxy Note 4 like it did with the Galaxy Gear and the Galaxy Note 3.

There’s also a chance that we could see Samsung bundle up some applications with the Galaxy Note 4, similar to what it did with the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5’s free Android app bundle was valued at over $500. Don’t be surprised if we see Samsung offer some incentives with the Galaxy Note 4 in an effort to get the ball rolling amongst increased competition.

Missing Variants

The Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to be coming in four colors including blue, gold, white, and black. Same as the Galaxy S5. However, expect Samsung to take a staggered approach when it comes to these colors. Samsung rarely offers a wide range of colors on release day and usually opts to release new colors in the days after the initial release.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 - 005-XL

Samsung might also announce several storage variants for the Galaxy Note 4 though we would only expect one model to arrive in the United States. That model? The 32GB Galaxy Note 4.

Galaxy Note 4 Deals on Release Day

Expect retailers to offer Galaxy Note 4 deals on release date. While we could see carriers offer the Galaxy Note 4 for $299.99 0n-contract, we expect retailers like Amazon to offer a bit of a discount from the initial price, whatever it ends of being. We’re not talking a $100 discount right off the bat but expect a discount between $10 and $30.

In the weeks after the Galaxy Note 4 release, we expect more deals to emerge. In other words, don’t expect to have to pay full price for the Galaxy Note 4 if you don’t want to. There should be a number of Galaxy Note 4 deals available on day one.

Galaxy Note 3 & Galaxy S5 Deals

Expect the price of the Galaxy Note 3 to drop dramatically after the Galaxy Note 4 is announced. We’ve already seen AT&T cut the Galaxy Note 3 price by $70 in the build up to the Galaxy Note 4 launch and we should see plenty of other price cuts emerge when the Galaxy Note 3’s successor is announced on stage. In particular, Amazon should offer some steep discounts while supplies last.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 - 006-X2

The Galaxy Note 3 might appeal to those that don’t fall in love with the Galaxy Note 4 or don’t want to shell out a ton of money. It won’t be as good as the Galaxy Note 4 but it will still be a solid option moving forward thanks to its powerful hardware and software that’s bound to get upgraded for several months down the line. Samsung typically offers 24 months of support. The Galaxy Note 3 is not even a year old.

We could see Galaxy S5 deals emerge as well as retailers help it compete with the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 Release Date

Finally, look for the Galaxy Note 4 release date to land in and around the iPhone 6 release date. With an Apple iPhone launch event rumored for September 9th, we’ve finally seen a concrete iPhone 6 release date timeline fall into place.

iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S3 - 3

While nothing is certain, the iPhone 6 release date could come on September 19th, a Friday. If true, it will like take the Galaxy Note 4 release head on. The iPhone 6, like the Galaxy Note 4, is expected to have a large display. In other words, it’s a device that prospective Galaxy Note 4 owners will want to have their eyes on as we head into the fall.

Keep these iPhone 6 dates in mind and expect there to be a fierce battle come September.
