5 New Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 Update Details Arrive

With no Android L release in sight, Samsung Galaxy smartphone and tablet users are locked in on Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat update. In the past week alone we’ve seen a number of new Android 4.4 KitKat release details emerge including new details regarding Samsung’s very elusive Android 4.4.4 KitKat bug fix update.

In January, Samsung rolled out the first of many Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrades. Since that day, the company has pushed out a number of Android 4.4 KitKat updates to its tablets and to its smartphone line including popular devices like the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy S3. Samsung’s Android 4.4 KitKat roll out has been going on for more than eight months now and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

In the past week alone we’ve seen a ton of Android 4.4 KitKat movement from Samsung and its carrier partners. In fact, we’ve seen five new key Android 4.4 KitKat details emerge including several that pertain to Google’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, an update that comes with crucial Android 4.4.2 KitKat bug fixes, and an update that has yet to roll out to Samsung’s smartphones.

Earlier this week, we spotted the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in a User Agent Profile string on Sprint’s website. This confirms Sprint’s Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat release and it means that the update’s release could be imminent. Sprint is well known for being first to major Android upgrades and it would not be surprising to see it beat out its fellow U.S. carriers to the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade.

Sprint’s plans lineup with plans from Australian carrier Optus who says that it has completed testing on its version of the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update and that it will be rolling out in the near future. The carrier does not offer any specific details regarding its release date so like the Sprint update, its Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is up in the air.

In addition to the Galaxy S5, we now know that the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung’s brand new smartphone that was announced yesterday, will be coming with Android 4.4.4 KitKat as its base operating system. What this means is that when the Galaxy Note 4 finally goes on sale in October, it will do so with the latest operating system on board.

The arrival of Android 4.4.4 KitKat on the Galaxy Note 4 could also be a catalyst for Samsung’s other Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades. Last year, the Galaxy Note 3 was the first to deliver Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and older devices like the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 got the update just a few short weeks later in October and November.

Those two details have been joined by a number of others. Vodafone Australia, a carrier that provides Android update details well in advance and serves as a good gauge for other carriers around the world, released an updated Android update schedule today and today’s schedule is full of some interesting Android 44 KitKat tidbits.

First, it looks like its Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are now slated for September. Vodafone’s Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 updates are on the tail end of these roll outs and so we suspect that like Vodafone, other Aussie carriers and smaller carriers around the world are also targeting September for these updates.

Second, the carrier confirms a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Android 4.4 KitKat update for October. We have not see this update hit the big time just yet so this provides a release window for those in Australia and those outside of the continent. Android updates for regions like the United States tend to come a few weeks ahead of Australia so we could see a big Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Android 4.4 push happen in September provided it does well in testing.

And third, we finally have some news regarding the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Vodafone is the only international carrier, at least that we’ve seen, that’s confirmed the Galaxy S3 LTE Android 4.4 KitKat update. It confirmed the update many weeks ago and now, we finally have a target release window for the upgrade.

The carrier says that the update is targeted for an October release. Release date specifics aren’t provided but the carrier says that it has not received the update for testing. While not confirmed, it could be that other carriers are targeting the same for their Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades. It’s still not very clear at this point.

With Android L release coming up, perhaps in October or November, Samsung will likely be working hard to get Android 4.4 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat deployed to key devices. Whether the Android 4.4 KitKat update release coincides with an Android L release or not remains to be seen. We should see more details trickle out as the year moves forward.
