Exciting Galaxy S6 Details Tease Big Changes

Exciting new Samsung Galaxy S6 details have emerged today as we push closer to an unconfirmed but probable Galaxy S6 release date later this year.

Throughout the month of January, we’ve seen reports hint at an upcoming Galaxy S6 release, a device that will supposedly replace the Galaxy S5 as the company’s flagship and challenger to the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and others. Over the last four weeks, we’ve see rumors tease the Galaxy S6 specs, Galaxy S6 launch date and the Galaxy S6 release date.

With Galaxy S6 rumors emerging at a breakneck pace, we’ve also seen some start to firm up well ahead of launch giving consumers some idea about what to expect from Samsung’s Next Big Thing.

LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 - 4

Today, a new collection of Galaxy S6 details has emerged teasing exciting new information about Samsung’s next flagship. These details come from trusted insiders and they also come from Samsung itself. Samsung still hasn’t confirmed the Galaxy S6 release but it’s clear that the device is in the cards for sometime later this year.

A report from The Korea Herald cites Robert Yi, the IR head of Samsung Electronics, who suggests that the company will be pushing out an “innovative premium handset” sometime this year with a “special function” attached to it. Yi does not specifically call out the Galaxy S6 though Galaxy S6 rumors have pointed to a premium device built from the ground up to replace the Galaxy S5.

Samsung, in its Q4 earning results, echoes Yi’s statements. The company says that through the use of “new materials, innovative design and differentiated features, competitive products will be introduced to drive smartphone sales, while efficiency will be enhanced across R&D and marketing to increase profitability.”

Again, the company does not call out the Galaxy S6 by name though with all signs pointing to a premium Galaxy S6 to help the company’s struggling mobile division, there’s a very good chance that the Galaxy S6 falls into these plans.

Galaxy S6 design rumors assert that the company is looking to ditch its usual plastic Galaxy S design for a premium design that utilizes metal, glass or both. Analysts continue to speculate that the Galaxy S6 will come with a metal casing, perhaps similar to the metal elements that arrived with the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Alpha designs last year.

Samsung Galaxy S6 specs continue to take shape as well. A new report from SamMobile claims that the company is indeed working to trim down its TouchWiz software, a move that was initiated with last year’s Galaxy S5 release. The company is reportedly cutting applications that can be downloaded to the device and it’s expected to slim down the presence of the UI by a “wide margin.” It’s not clear which apps will be abolished from Samsung’s pre-loaded list of TouchWiz applications.

Early reports indicated that Samsung was working to bring the Galaxy S6 software down to Nexus 6 levels and it while the device may not be that barebones, it’s certainly looking like TouchWiz won’t have as big of a presence on the Galaxy S6.

The publication also says that the Galaxy S6, and the rumored Galaxy S6 Edge, will both come with support for Samsung’s Gear VR accessory. For the moment, the Gear VR is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Adding support for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge could mean a new version of the device or larger screens for the Galaxy S6 variants.

Galaxy S6 display size rumors put the device at either 5.1-inches or 5.5-inches. The company is likely testing different prototypes which could explain why there is such a discrepancy. Alleged Galaxy S6 photos, said to be of a prototype, have been marked as fakes leaving consumers with little to go on ahead of the Galaxy S6 launch date.

Samsung Galaxy S6 - Exciting Tech 2015

The Samsung Galaxy S6 launch date is rumored for Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain and specifically for March 2nd, the day that the trade show begins. Samsung returned to MWC last year to announce the Galaxy S5 and the show seems a likely place for a massive launch event to showcase its brand new mobile products.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 release date remains out of reach though rumors indicate that it could release the device two to three weeks earlier than normal. Samsung typically releases its Galaxy S in mid-April so we could see the company shift to a late-March, early-April release for the Samsung Galaxy S6. Look for more rumors to emerge as we get closer to the company’s launch event.
