New Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop release details have arrived today and they include big news for owners of the aging former flagship as Samsung is now finally rolling out a key Galaxy S4 Lollipop update.

In late January, Samsung began rolling out the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. The update, which came as a bit of a surprise when it arrived ahead of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, is a massive upgrade for owners of the aging Galaxy S4. The Lollipop update is 1GB in size and it brings a number of enhancements, fixes and new features to the company’s former flagship Galaxy S model.

Since January, the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update has moved out to a number of different users though it remains very limited. Slowly but surely, Samsung is making progress with its highly anticipated Galaxy S4 Lollipop upgrade and in recent days, the company’s finally made a significant push with its Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 upgrade.

Over the weekend, Samsung started pushing out its Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Black Edition. The update is reportedly rolling out in the United Kingdom bringing massive changes to one of Samsung’s sleek Galaxy S4 variants. The Galaxy S4 Black Edition isn’t the only device getting Android 5.0 though.

In addition, the long awaited Galaxy S4 LTE Android 5.0 Lollipop update is rolling out. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Lollipop update is currently rolling out to users in the United Kingdom and it brings Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and all of Lollipop’s massive changes to the LTE version of the device. The United Kingdom is just the beginning for this update and it should start spreading to new regions in a few days after Samsung determines that it’s ready for widespread deployment.

The Galaxy S4 LTE is found in regions all over the world though users shouldn’t expect Samsung to finish this upgrade in a timely manner. Historically, Samsung’s roll outs span across several months and in some cases, over an entire year. The exact nature of its roll out process is unpredictable so there’s no telling how long it might take for the Galaxy S4 Black and Galaxy S4 LTE Lollipop updates to complete.

In the United States, the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update remains missing and it’s not clear when its LTE variants will get their upgrade to Google’s new operating system. US carriers haven’t confirmed any details and the only one with an Android upgrade page, T-Mobile, has yet to include a Galaxy S4 Lollipop upgrade on the list.

What this means is that T-Mobile and Samsung (and perhaps other carriers as well) have yet to agree on a Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. If and when the update is confirmed, it will enter the carrier’s “Manufacturer Development” phase. Both its Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates currently sit in the “Manufacturer Development” phase ahead of carrier testing.

Samsung continues to pump out Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades in the months since its initial release in December. The company is currently focused on five devices including the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note Edge. All of these updates are in different stages of deployment and only the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates are available in the United States.

The company is expected to roll out a number of other Lollipop upgrades this year including an upgrade for its Galaxy S5 mini. That update, according to Samsung France, will arrive sometime in the second quarter. The second quarter spans from April until June which gives the company a wide open window for the update’s deployment. We should continue to see new details spring up as the year goes on.
