Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge release date has come and gone for most places but that hasn’t stopped the flow of new details. We continue to see new Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 release details emerge and today, we take a look at what prospective Galaxy S6 buyers need to know.

In early March, after months and months of rumor and speculation, Samsung took the stage and announced two brand new Galaxy S6 models. One, a regular Galaxy S6. The other, a curved variant dubbed Galaxy S6 Edge. The two devices feature powerful specifications including Quad HD displays, 16MP cameras with OIS, Exynos 7 Octa processors, and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both arrived on April 10th in the United States and they’ve quickly become two of the top devices on the market. They’re solid options and they’re two phones that many consumers in the US and elsewhere are looking at in their hunt for a new phone.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 release hype has died down but that doesn’t mean that the release is over. In fact, we’ve seen a number of new, and important, Galaxy S6 details emerge in recent days and today we take a look at five new details prospective buyers need to know about right now.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Release

The first thing that prospective Galaxy S6 buyers need to know is that Samsung is gearing up for another Galaxy S6 release in the United States and perhaps, abroad as well.

For several weeks now, we’ve seen Galaxy S6 Active release rumors tease another variant of the Galaxy S6. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active release date is rumored for the summer though a specific date hasn’t been outlined. Summer starts in late June which means that we could be just a few weeks away from an announcement and release. Last year, AT&T released its Galaxy S5 Active on May 30th.

There are signs all around. Several weeks ago, Japanese site Blog of Mobile spotted the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active lurking on Bluetooth SIG. The filing, for the SM-G890A, doesn’t confirm a release date but it does mean that the Galaxy S6 Active has taken another step toward a release inside the United States.

A few days ago, Android Central spotted the Galaxy S6 Active on Samsung’s own website, a sign that the company is prepping for the release behind the scenes. This is important because this year’s Active model is shaping up to be extremely interesting.

Current Galaxy S6 Active design rumors indicate that it will come with a much larger 3,500 mAh battery and an IP67 certification that will make it water and dust resistant like the Galaxy S5. Another rumor also suggests that it will come with a microSD card slot for expanded storage, something that the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have.

Recent photos show what appears to be an AT&T Galaxy S6 Active. The device appears to be a tank which makes sense given its “Active” branding. “Active” phones have always been marketed to those who want a rugged device.

According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will reportedly feature a 5.1 inch Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 (2K) display, an 8-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage and a 16-megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front-facing camera. None of this is confirmed.

New Official Galaxy S6 Accessories

Current Galaxy S6 owners and prospective Galaxy S6 buyers will be happy to know that official Avengers Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge accessories are now on sale through UK retailer MobileFun. The retailer says that it expects to have the accessories in stock starting today.

The retailer is offering Avengers Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge cases. It’s also offering a Captain America Galaxy S6 wireless charger for both the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6. The prices on the accessories are a bit steep though it’s not clear who else will be selling these accessories of when.

Iron Man Galaxy S6 Release

Samsung’s confirmed a special Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge release though the company hasn’t said when it plans to release the unique version of the device. And oddly enough, the company’s tweet about the new Galaxy S6 Edge model has since been deleted.

It’s still not clear what the Ironman Galaxy S6 will look like though we assume that it will include Tony Stark’s signature red and gold color scheme.

It’s also not clear where the device is headed though Samsung has said that the release will be limited. This means that some regions, likely smaller markets not called the United States, will be left out of the special launch.

New Galaxy S6 Colors

The blue Galaxy S6 and green Galaxy S6 Edge were announced alongside the white, black and gold models. However, the colors have been scarce. That will change soon.

Samsung’s confirmed plans to deliver the blue Galaxy S6 and green Galaxy S6 Edge and Best Buy is already listing the two models on its website. The listings are for the 32GB and 64GB models. Neither is on sale just yet.

It’s not clear when Samsung plans to release these models in the US. It’s also not clear if there will be an exclusive in the United States. In the past, Best Buy’s been able to secure blue Galaxy models for its stores so it’s certainly possible that we’ll see something similar here.

Exclusive or not, these two models should hit the United States in the near future giving consumers four color options for each device.

Updates Fix Galaxy S6 Problems

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are top notch phones but they aren’t perfect. Galaxy S6 users have been complaining about assorted Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge problems since launch and we’re finally starting to see Samsung and its carrier partners push forth bug fix updates.

Earlier this month, Samsung started rolling out new Lollipop updates to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. AT&T and Sprint are rolling out brand new versions of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. AT&T’s Galaxy S6 Android 5.0.2 Lollipop release is a massive update, well over 200MB in size, and it comes with improvements and fixes.

Sprint’s rolling out a new version of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to its Galaxy S6 Edge. Sprint’s update is a tad smaller than AT&T’s, 130MB compared to 230MB, but it also brings bug fixes to the curved version of the Samsung Galaxy S6. Other carriers are planning bug fixes too and these bug fixes that should help to stabilize the devices.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung’s planning Android 5.1 updates for both devices. Android 5.1 is expected to bring bug fixes and new features including Guest Mode.

Samsung Fixing Bugs Ahead of Android 5.1

The first thing you should be excited about is the fact that Samsung is already fixing bugs ahead of the Android 5.1 release

US carriers, and international carriers, are rolling out Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge bug fix updates that tackle at least some of the problems Galaxy S6 users have been complaining about. These updates should help to stabilize these devices ahead of Android 5.1's arrival.

While we haven't seen Lollipop bug fix updates scheduled for devices outside of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, there's a good chance that we'll see some carriers opt to release smaller updates ahead of any potential Android 5.1 updates. Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S4 users, and others are still complaining about issues and there is work to be done.
