Rise of the Tomb Raider Release Date: 5 Things to Know

Published

on

The Rise of the Tomb Raider release date for Xbox One is now confirmed and with that in mind, we want to take a look at the key things prospective buyers need to know about the game’s highly anticipated release date later this year.

2013’s Tomb Raider from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics was one of the surprise hits of the year. In fact, the game was so good that it spawned a revamped Tomb Raider Definitive Edition for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014. Since that release, fans of the series have been waiting for a follow-up and earlier this year, the developers delivered.

In 2014, the companies confirmed another Tomb Raider game, a game that’s now known as Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game will serve as a follow-up to the story in the previous game and console owners will once again assume the role of the well-known Lara Croft.

In the months since the initial release, we’ve seen a number of Rise of the Tomb Raider release details emerge though until today, we didn’t know precisely when the game would be coming. We knew E3 2015 would produce a number of new details and today, we want to take a look at what we’ve learned.

Now that the Rise of the Tomb Raider release date is confirmed, here’s what owners of the Xbox One, and PS4, need to know about the highly anticipated successor to Tomb Raider.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Release Date

We expected Microsoft to showcase Rise of the Tomb Raider at its press conference today and the company did not disappoint. In addition to showcasing new gameplay footage from the game, Microsoft also confirmed the Rise of the Tomb Raider release date for Xbox One.

As expected, the game’s release date will be situated right in the middle of the holiday shopping season giving shoppers the chance to buy the game for a loved one or a friend ahead of the holidays.

The Xbox One Rise of the Tomb Raider release will take place on November 10th, or, the same day that Bethesda will release Fallout 4.

Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 Release

Microsoft’s teasers promoted the game as an Xbox One exclusive though the door for a PS4 Rise of the Tomb Raider release remains open. It’s just not clear when a PS4 version of the game will come out, if it comes out at all.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that the game will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox. A timed exclusive means that Microsoft will offer it unopposed for a certain amount of time before the game is no longer an exclusive. In other words, it could head to a console like the PS4.

Tomb-Raider-2

Sony has yet to confirm plans to release the game and we haven’t seen any credible evidence hint at a release for the PlayStation 4. That doesn’t mean that they won’t arrive down the road it just means that a release for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360 will be first.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox 360

Unlike some games, Rise of the Tomb Raider will also come to the Xbox 360. We assume that its release date will come on the same day as the release for Xbox One though retailers like Amazon haven’t confirmed their plans just yet. The Microsoft Store lists the game’s release date as November 10th.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Pre-Orders

We’ve seen a number of Rise of the Tomb Raider pre-order sprout up and it looks like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Microsoft, and Walmart are all taking early orders for the game.

Before deciding on a place to pre-order, make sure you do your research. Some pre-orders come with caveats that you’ll want to be aware of before pre-ordering.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Deals

Best Buy is offering $10 in reward certificates to those in the My Best Buy program. Those in the Gamers Club Unlocked program should also be able to knock 20% off the $60 price which will drop it down to $48.

Microsoft is also offering a Rise of the Tomb Raider pre-order deal that will net buyers a “$10 Xbox gift card digital code within 10 days after the game’s release.” That deal is available for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 version of the game.
