Star Wars Battlefront DLC: 5 Things to Know Right Now

Published

on

The biggest complaint about Star Wars Battlefront is its repetitiveness. The free Battle of Jakku DLC helped but gamers are focused on the future. With that in mind, we want to take a look at the most important things to know right now about Star Wars Battlefront DLC for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Star Wars Battlefront puts gamers into huge battles on places like Hoth and into the shoes of famous heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. It looks great and the gameplay is fun for gamers of all ages.

The game’s has improved thanks to the free Battle of Jakku DLC and several patches that fixed glaring Battlefront problems on PS4, Xbox One and PC. That hasn’t stopped the flow of complaints though and some gamers are still fixated on its repetitiveness due to the limited weapon options, maps and characters.

Star-Wars-Battlefront-Release-Date-6

Star Wars Battlefront doesn’t have the mod support that games like Fallout have so Battlefront gamers are going to have to rely on downloadable content (DLC) for added depth. Fortunately, EA and DICE have a ton of content in the works.

The companies have confirmed plans to release downloadable content for Star Wars Battlefront though there are still plenty of unknowns as we push into 2016.

As gamers start looking toward the future, we want to touch on a few things that we know about Star Wars Battlefront DLC for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Star Wars Battlefront DLC Release Date

The first paid Star Wars Battlefront DLC will be released in March. A specific release date for the first Star Wars Battlefront DLC is unknown but we now have a name and a release window.

EA and DICE will be releasing four premium Battlefront expansion packs for Battlefront on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The first expansion pack, dubbed Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim, will be released in March.

Outer-Rim-DLC

After that, EA and DICE will release Star Wars Battlefront Bespin DLC in the summer. A specific release date isn’t known yet.

In the fall, they will release Star Wars Battlefront Death Star DLC, just ahead of the Star Wars Rogue One movie and the holidays.

And finally, in 2017, DICE and EA plan to release a final paid Battlefront DLC. Details about the fourth expansion are scarce but the company has committed to an “early 2017” release date.

Battlefront Season Pass

EA and DICE are offering a Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass that will net you all of the paid Battlefront DLC content for $50.

The Season Pass will net you a few different items. You’ll get a “Shoot First” emote to use in the game and you’ll also gain access to the expansion packs two weeks before those who declined to purchase the Season Pass.

Battlefront-DLC

You can pick up the Battlefront Season Pass at various retailers including the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and well known retailers like Amazon.

If you do decide to pass on the Season Pass, EA and DICE have confirmed plans to release the Expansion Packs separately. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise because it’s a release model that DICE has used for many years.

It’s not clear how much each expansion pack will cost on its own but expect the Season Pass to net you a bit of a deal on the four DLC releases.

Star Wars Battlefront DLC Features

EA has released some information about DLC features though many details are out of reach for Xbox One, PS4 and PC users.

Last year, the company said that the expansion packs would feature “20 new pieces of galactic tech including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials” and “4 more heroes and villains for you to fight as or against.”

The company also said that the expansion packs would feature “16 additional multiplayer maps featuring new locations” and “4 exciting new game modes.”

It’s not clear how exactly it will break up all of this in its four expansion packs but we finally have some clues thanks to the big announcement.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine
  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

The company recently confirmed the contents of the Outer Rim DLC and it’s set to bring new weapons, characters, maps, and a brand new mode to gamers later on this month.

Offline Multiplayer

Gamers have been calling for EA and DICE to put together an offline multiplayer mode. And while nothing is confirmed, DICE has said that it’s investigating the idea.

More recently Dennis Brännvall, EA DICE’s Lead Designer, told an inquiring mind that there have been “promising” developments, a positive sign for those looking to hone their multiplayer skills offline.

Free Star Wars Battlefront Updates

In addition to all of this paid DLC, DICE and EA will also be releasing free content for the game. The company says that it “will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass.”

Star Wars

The company just pushed out a brand new February Battlefront update and it plans to deliver one this month ahead of the Outer Rim DLC.

The March Star Wars Battlefront update will bring “another exciting new multiplayer map on Endor that will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and an additional Tatooine Survival map.” We expect more than that though.

Star Wars Battlefront DLC Focus

If you were hoping for an extensive tie-in with Star Wars The Force Awakens, you’ll probably want to temper those expectations.

EA continues to tell fans of the game and Star Wars series that it’s going to be focused on the original trilogy of films for this version of Battlefront.

Kylo Ren will just have to wait it seems.

March Star Wars Battlefront Update: What’s New in 1.06

March Battlefront Update Size

March Battlefront Update Size

The latest Star Wars Battlefront update is absolutely massive.

EA DICE is requiring this update for all players, not just Season Pass owners which means that you need 8GB of free space available if you want to play the Outer Rim DLC. Here's why:

"For all other players, downloading this content will allow you to enjoy all of the free content we are making available for all players, while also making sure that your experience playing with Season Pass owners remains smooth."

So if you have a console that's filled up to the brim with content, now would be a good time to delete some files.

And if you're using a slow connection, now would be a great time to plug in an ethernet cord into your system of choice.

And what a smart investment picking up Battlefront 2 would be compared to a season pass of Battlefront EA!!!

Nope… They got my money for the core game and they can keep it.

        Respect? EA I do not…

They royally ripped all of us off with this one. Even with decade old graphics Battlefront 2 is a better game than this.

This game is awesome and I’m so tired of hearing so many people complain. it is everything a star wars fan could want and it just appears that no matter what there is no way to keep everyone happy

    I didn’t buy this and I wont.
EA is a bunch of thieves.
They will never get a cent from me ever again.

Agreed. I did buy this game and I tend to find myself playing the older versions. Especially since I can’t access online features because EA has to have you on their own accounts instead of using PSN or Xbox Live and they locked down my account on accident as they did to so many players of the game. Now I’m trying to figure out how to get back on because the guy at EA that I called could not explain what I needed to do. This game is $60. Don’t waste your money kids.

Why the hell should games be allowed to rely on mods for depth? Battlefront is a disaster and total cash-grab.

“Early” is a very ambiguous word but at the very least it should mean that the first expansion will arrive in the first half of 2016.

LOL seriously… No kidding it will arrive in the FIRST HALF!!! Half a year is 6 months dude. I’m pretty sure “Early” won’t be OVER 6 months away! Who wrote this article?!? gimme a break.

Ignore this childish article with basic vague information, dice may claim they are staying away from the newest film, but the first piece of dlc was the battle of jakku. This article is clickbait trash

“Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront”

but jakku is from the new one…. lol?

    • ChickenDuckWomanThing

      01/09/2016 at 7:19 pm

The battle of jakku takes place just after jedi, way before force awakens, has nothing to do with new movie

I love the game and play it often, but new maps are needed asap. Don’t care about new hereos, we need more maps, weapons, starcards, and more unlock able skins!! Variety of skins is really light. Where are emperor imperial guards? Officers? Pilots? IG-88? On rebel side it’s basically all humans, need more aliens! More droids! More!

  21. CFunk

    01/20/2016 at 9:26 am

I don’t care about new heroes. There should be new single player focussed modes like breaking into bases, stealing intel, escaping, more like Rogue Squadron levels.

  22. Justin

    01/20/2016 at 11:43 am

I cant wait to see what maps they make , 16 large awesome immersive maps , cant wait for the mushroom plant one with all the colors

Guaranteed, its gonna be Bespin, Cloud City. Chewy and Obi Won, maybe some of the bounty hunters from Empire will be heroes and villains. They’ll have the Carbonite Chamber, the Large hexagon window that Luke falls through while fighting Vader. BET YOU!!!!!!!

  25. Tommy

    01/21/2016 at 7:06 am

this is who I want to see as playable characters… Chewy, Lando, Obi Wan (old), Wedge (Flight battles only), Admiral Akbar (It’s a Trap), Bespin Trooper skin, Wicket (as a power up), Slave Leia Skin, New Hope Leia (Skin), Gramorean Guard, Jabba The Hut, Grand Moff Tarkin, Dengar, IG-88. Like to fly in the Falcon, Slave One, Like the rebels to have some land vehicles as well.

    • Aaron

      02/01/2016 at 6:51 pm

Jabba the Hut would be the greatest hero, he could summon rancors

  29. N.Jones

    01/31/2016 at 7:20 pm

I’m sorry… But there is zero chance I’ll be investing into a season pass. I honestly felt like Destiny was incomplete when I bought it, it took an entire year and well over the cost of $60 to finally get a “complete experience” there. But this?

This is horrible. No galaxy map or one on one, no space battle, no single player campaign, limited weapons that all feel the same, limited vehicles that don’t always make sense, and… Let me get this straight… A 100% online geared game with only three maps on release? They’re relying on good graphics and sound design to pretty much sell an entire experience.

I pre-ordered/bought this for both Ps4 and Xbone… And feel royally ripped off. The only mode worth anything is the Fighter Squadron mode, which is fun, but only provides an hour or two of play before it becomes a hyped version of Starfox without a plot or a change of scenery. The variety there isn’t even noticeable or in the slightest bit innovative. Fun… Sure… But it gets old quick with four vehicles to pick from (that are all pretty much the same) and no weapons of interest to speak of.

It would have been extremely easy to script up 30 or 40 missions with limited dialog and a shell of a plot… They opted to focus on dynamic lighting instead.

I’ll tell you what… When they get their dynamic lighting perfect, and realize this ARCADE title was only worth $30… I’ll happily accept an apology in the form of free content updates. And no… Jakku doesn’t cut it.

They hyped this game to all heck as being the end all… They were right. It ended my confidence in both EA and Dice.

The graphics may not be as good… But I won’t be recycling Battlefront 2 quite yet. Its a better game, hands down a much better game.

Thank god Bethesda didn’t let me down this year. I’d feel royally ripped off by the gaming industry’s profit machine if so.

Season pass? Yeah… You gotta get the core game right if I’m going to spend $110 on a title. Considering I’ve already spent $140 on it between two platforms… We’re done here.

I think that Star Wars battlefront should have a campaign where you start out as a Padawan and work your way up to a Jedi master and fight battles along side of the other Jedi masters and complete major events that were in the original trilogy like defeating general grevous.
