Galaxy S7 Release Inches Closer as Cases Appear

Published

If all the most recent reports and rumors are accurate the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be announced in February, and released only a few weeks later at the latest. And while leaks have been back and forth regarding what to expect, this week some more official renders from case makers, and cases from big names themselves could be revealing all the details ahead of the release.

In April the Galaxy S6 was announced, then released a little over a month later in the United States. However, we’re hearing Samsung will be moving along much quicker in 2016, just as they did with the early August release of the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015.

Rumors have been back and forth regarding what to expect. Everything from four different variants being released, only three, a completely revamped sizing system and more. It looks like Samsung will have a Galaxy S7, a Galaxy S7 Edge, and a Galaxy S7 Plus. However, official cases on Amazon from the popular brand Spigen suggest we’ll see four Galaxy S7 models next month.

The video above comes from uSwitch, in partnership with @onleaks who has been extremely accurate with leaks in the past. His source is a case manufacturer that gets full details and schematics (blueprints) of the device from Samsung in order to build cases and accessories. They were dead on accurate with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P late last year, and are now sharing their renders for the upcoming Galaxy S7.

And while the video above doesn’t get into specifics, the render does show a slightly thicker Galaxy S7, which could be making room for a bigger 3,000 mAh battery. A detail which was reportedly confirmed by rumors earlier this week. That said, details from the brand Spigen could be shedding more light on the situation as the release date nears.

Galaxy-S7-cases

Last night Spigen released a slew of official Galaxy S7 cases, covers and accessories on Amazon. According to the cases they’ve released Samsung will have a Galaxy S7, a Galaxy S7 Plus, as well as a Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge Plus. Essentially four models like earlier rumors. In recent weeks we’ve heard there will only be one Galaxy S7 Edge, which will come in at 5.5-inches instead.

So what this all essentially means is rumors are all over the place, the rumor mills are churning at full speed, and no one really knows for sure until the release gets closer and actual devices leak. We do know the design will be nearly identical, but with a few small changes. Samsung will be adding bigger battery options, might return the micro-SD slot, the camera bulge will be thinner or gone completely and more.

That being said, it’s still too early to tell, and rumors are all over the place in terms of screen sizes, to if it’ll have a micro-USB or a Type-C port. If the late February announcement and release date is indeed accurate, we’ll know more soon enough. For now we need to take all these leaks with a grain of salt, and wait for more concrete evidence to arrive. At the end of the day, at least two or three new Galaxy S7 phones will be released soon enough, and they’re shaping up to be rather impressive flagship smartphones.
