If you are in the mood to try something new, the Distiller app includes a Recommend option that allows you to choose a type of liquor, how you want to enjoy it, your experience with that type so far and then the style such as scotch, American, Irish or World. After you tell the app where you want to enjoy it and how much you want to spend you’ll get a recommendation of what to try. It’s really fun and a nice way to find some new options.

The main page includes lists of new and trending Whiskey that you need to try as well as lists that will help you find new bottles to add to you collection. Whisky & More Flaviar App

We originally discovered Flaviar thanks to a monthly tasting pack that they offer. The Flaviar tasting pack is a paid service that ships you 5 samples of spirits each month so you can try a variety of Scotch, Whisky, Bourbon, Rum, Gin and other options.

You don’t need to use that paid service to enjoy the app. Unfortunately this app is only available on the iPhone, so if you are on Android you will need to use another option or sign up to be notified when it comes out.

The Flavor Spiral helps you learn what to expect when you take a sip.

Flaviar includes a really handy flavor spiral for each spirit they include a listing for. This shows you the various flavors you may taste when sampling or drinking a specific Whiskey, Scotch or Bourbon.

In the app you can rate a spirit, add it to your bar and view the flavor profile. The app will show you similar drinks at the bottom of any specific drink so that you can find a new bottle to try.

There are also options to buy many bottles, but you don’t have to make any purchases to use the app. You can also buy sampler packs individually or with the subscription service that the company offers.

Craft Bourbon App

The Craft Bourbon app is essentially an ad for the Buffalo Trace Distillery, but if you are tempted to get into Bourbon it is an amazing place to get some understanding and learn about the different tastes that Bourbon offers.

The app walks you though creating a Bourbon recipe and explains how the different ingredients and amounts impact the flavor. This helps you figure out what to look for when you go to the store.

After you pick a recipe it explains the process of turning those ingredients into the start of Bourbon and you’ll need to decide how much to char the barrel before it goes into warehousing. Even the location of a barrel in the warehouse impacts the flavor. Choose how long to age the Bourbon, based on the flavors that you will get from aging and then decide how strong you want the bourbon by adding water.

At the end of using this app, you will see a description of the Bourbon you created and then you will also see a Buffalo Trace Distillery option that is the closest match to what you made. It’s a fun process that teaches you about Bourbon in a really cool way.
