Nexus 2015 Leaks Have Rumors Swirling

Published

on

Since as far back as early February we’ve been hearing small reports and rumors about one or two new Nexus smartphones for 2015, and now a brand new leak claims to have the first images of Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 for 2015. Or at least some cases based on the dimensions for the next Nexus 5.

The rumor mills have been churning ever since news surfaced a few months back that Google wasn’t working on just one smartphone to replace the Nexus 6, but two. Reportedly an LG Nexus 5, and another Nexus 6 for 2015 with a slightly smaller screen.

However, this week we’ve received our first few images and drawing that are showcasing what is reportedly the smaller LG Nexus, but it’s nothing more than that, and still leaves plenty of questions unanswered. The images are said to be of LG’s new Nexus, but it looks very similar to something we’d see from another Motorola Nexus smartphone, similar to last years popular Nexus 6.

Popular leakster @Onleaks reports that the image shown above is of the backside of the all-new LG Nexus 5 for 2015. It is only a drawing of the back of the phone from a case manufacturer who’s received very early information about the smartphone. Which means this is just an image of the case, giving us a potential look at what to expect in terms of the design. This is also extremely early information, which could be inaccurate, and details may change before the final release.

We clearly see a rather large smartphone, something that could be much bigger than the rumored 5.2-inch Nexus 5 (2015) and it doesn’t look like an LG phone, but another Motorola device. The two cutouts could be for the Motorola logo and camera, but we’ve also heard rumors that this year Google’s Nexus devices will have two cameras for 3D effects, and other neat futures.

It’s also said that here in 2015 both Nexus smartphones will have fingerprint scanners, to take advantage of the new fingerprint support in the upcoming Android M release. What we see above and below could be a dual camera setup, or the camera up top, flash off to the side, and a rear fingerprint scanner. It’s hard to tell.

However, a second photo was released a few hours later showing some mockups of actual cases for the new device. At this point it’s way too early to know if what we’re seeing is actually real, or just mockups, not to mention potentially leaks of a device from last year that never came to fruition.

This second photo shows cases for a device that is extremely similar to the Nexus 6, but with some slight changes. Those being three big cutouts on back for dual cameras or a fingerprint scanner, a rearranged set of buttons, and a fourth notch in the case above the buttons for another button or switch, similar to Apple’s “silent” switch.

As things stand now, rumors are suggesting LG has an all-new never before seen prototype smartphone with a 5.2-inch 1080p HD display that will be the new Nexus 5 for 2015. It could have a 6-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and a moderately sized 2,700 mAh battery. Then rumors claim another 5.7-inch Nexus 6 is coming by Chinese manufacturer Huawei, which will be a bigger, faster, more powerful Nexus, but slightly smaller than last years model. The image above could actually be cases for the 5.7-inch Huawei Nexus 6, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Google’s already confirmed the next version of Android, the M release, will be released in the 3rd Quarter of the year, which is before the end of September. This would be earlier than the last two years and a surprise change of pace. When it arrives, we can expect at least one new Nexus smartphone to hit the market running Android M, which could fit the molds shown above. Stay tuned for more details.
