 Google Maps may not be the first app you think of when finding apps for helping with tornado safety, but it can help in a pinch, and it's available on iOS and Android.

For instance, if you're out and about in your car and some severe weather is headed your way, you can use Google Maps to navigate you where you want to go and avoid any traffic. It's also helpful for when you spot a tornado and want to head in the opposite direction. Since most (if not all) tornadoes move east, then you can use that information and drive in the opposite direction based on your compass.

Of course, you'll most likely know where you want to go, but Google Maps can provide you with live traffic updates so that you're not caught up in slow traffic while you're trying to escape a severe storm.
