Walmart Free Two-Day Shipping Now Covers 2 Million Items

Forget membership fees for free shipping. The free Walmart two-day shipping is here without the need to join a special club or pay an annual fee to get the benefit.

Walmart rolled back plans for a membership program similar to Amazon Prime and is now offering free two-day shipping to anyone without the need to pay any added fees to get free shipping.

“Two-day free shipping is the first of many moves we will be making to enhance the customer experience and accelerate growth.” said Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. eCommerce, adding,”In today’s world of e-commerce, two-day free shipping is table stakes. It no longer makes sense to charge for it.”

Amazon is a major competitor and many users rely on Amazon Prime to get items delivered in just two days. To get free two-day shipping from Amazon you need to pay $99 a year for Amazon Prime.

While Amazon Prime is about more than just shipping, it is a major expense for many users.

Walmart now offers free two-day shipping on orders over $35. Amazon requires a $49 minimum for free two-day shipping without Amazon Prime.

There is no need to pay for a ShippingPass membership. The program is now canceled and customers who paid for the ShippingPass membership already will receive a full refund.

Shoppers can choose from a wide variety of two-day shipping items. The items ship directly to your home or you can choose to ship to store. Walmart also offers same-day pickup for many in-store items.

According to CNBC, the Walmart free two-day shipping offer only applies to 2 million products, while Amazon Prime covers 40 million products. Lore told CNBC, “There won’t be too many products that you’ll want that won’t be available [for] two-day shipping”

Walmart shoppers only need to add $35 or more of items to their cart to qualify for free two-day shipping to their home. This is not a limited time promotion. There is no minimum for in-store pickup of items.
