Reasons Not to Install iOS 8.4

Shortly before the arrival of iOS 8.4, we outlined some reasons why you might not want to install the iOS 8.4 update, at least for the time being. Some of those reasons still apply a week after the iOS 8.4 release and here's what you need to know.

If you own an iPhone 5s and you use it for school or work, you probably don't want to download the software until it's cleared by your IT department or until you've been able to confirm that your critical apps are all compatible. You don't want to download iOS 8.4 and then find out an essential app is broken right before a presentation. Read reviews, do your homework.

You don't want to download the iOS 8.4 update if you're traveling. There's just too much risk involved. You don't want to be dealing with iOS 8.4 problems when you're trying to enjoy yourself or get work done.

You probably don't want to install the iPhone 5s update if you're unprepared. We recently put together some steps and some release date tips that will help you prepare you and your iPhone 5s for the download and installation process. If you're new to iOS, most of these should help.

Finally, if you're having a good experience on iOS 8.3 or below, you're going to want to be very careful with iOS 8.4. If you don't think you want or need Apple Music or iBooks or the iOS 8.4 update's fixes, you can stay put until you think you need them. Don't rush into this, especially if you're on iOS 7. There's no going back if you run into iOS 8.4 problems.
