It's not clear exactly what will be coming after Android 6.0.1 though we know that the Nexus 5 will almost certainly get a new build next month. 

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update delivered the bump to Android 6.0.1 and it also brought Google's December security update with it. 

Google is pushing monthly security patches for the Nexus 5 and that means that the next Nexus 5 update on our radar is the January security update. 

It's important to note that Android 5.1 rolled out in early 2015 so there's a chance that Google pushes out a more substantial Marshmallow update next year. 

One plugged in insider claims that Android 6.1 will come next year and another source believes that the Android 6.1 update will come in June.
