Samsung Ships 3 Million Galaxy S II Smartphones in 55 Days

Despite not yet being available in North America, Samsung has announced that it has shipped over 3 million the Galaxy S II smartphones, successor to the original Galaxy S, in a period of 55 days. The dual-core smartphone boasts a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and an incredibly thin form factor.

The Galaxy S II is now Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone. The previous record was the Samsung Galaxy S, which the company managed to ship the same amount in about 85 days.

With 1080p recording and an 8-megapixel camera, the Samsung Galaxy S II is challenged by HTC’s Sensation, available in the U.S. as the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network, which promises a rival LCD display with a higher qHD resolution (versus the WVGA Super AMOLED Plus).

Neither Samsung nor any major U.S. carrier has announced availability of the Galaxy S II for the U.S. market, though the device is anticipated to be available on all four major U.S. networks as was the original Galaxy S.
