Galaxy Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich Launch Cancelled

Google and Samsung have let down millions of expecting Android fans. This morning we have news that the two tech giants are cancelling the Galaxy Nexus, or Nexus Prime, launch. Even more disappointing is the news that Android Ice Cream Sandwich has also been delayed.

The Nexus Prime was to be Google’s shot back at the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, but it looks like both Samsung and Google have decided to put the sandwich back in the freezer until a later date.

The official message is,

“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”

The new Nexus device and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich were supposed to be introduced on October 11th at CTIA Fall 2011. Just this week Samsung and Google unleashed a Nexus Prime trailer which gave us a look at the new Nexus, which you can see below. It looked like the Nexus team was listening to Adam’s advice on what the Nexus Prime needs to do to compete with the iPhone 4S. But now, who knows.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or Nexus Prime as it has been called over the past few months, was looking like a real device. We had our first look at the new phone, and just yesterday got a full list of specs.

The Galaxy Nexus was expected to have a 4.65″ Super AMOLED HD display, LTE and 5MP camera, but late in the day on October 6th we heard that the device would actually have a new Exynos 1.5GHz dual core processor and an 8MP camera.

Samsung Nexus Delayed

Could it be that Samsung decided to pull a Motorola and re-engineer the Samsung Galaxy Nexus this close to launch? If that’s the case, will Google look for a new suitor for Ice Cream Sandwich, something like the HTC Vigor?

Yesterday we said that the HTC Vigor was essentially dead on arrival if it had to compete with the Galaxy Nexus, but with this news the Vigor has a new lease on life.

Stay tuned, we’ll try to get to the bottom of this nefarious Nexus nixing as soon as possible.
