Samsung Galaxy Nexus Headed to Sprint?

Published

on

Ever since Google and Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there has been a burning question etched into the minds of tons of consumers around the United States. Will the Galaxy Nexus be heading to a carrier other than Verizon?

We have seen a device that we think is the Galaxy Nexus pop up at the FCC with bands for AT&T and T-Mobile and we’ve also seen a Samsung employee say that it might be heading to other carriers in the future. (Only to retract that statement.)

Today though, we have the most viable evidence yet, courtesy of BriefMobile, that comes in the form of a purchase order from Sprint that lists an “undefined” device which could mean that the Galaxy Nexus will be heading to the Now Network at some point in the future.

“Undefined” apparently refers to the Galaxy Nexus.

Galaxy Nexus

You can also see that the name Nexus Prime is also listed here, a name that is believed to be another code name for the Galaxy Nexus.

So, it would appear that those of you on Sprint can, at the very least, start getting slightly excited about the possibility of a Galaxy Nexus launch at some point in the days ahead.

Who’s buying?

That would be nice, but you’d have to wonder if it will have the potential to be switched over to LTE at a later date.  Doubtful, but that would make a huge difference for someone who may want to stay with Sprint, but wants LTE.  Are there any people like that?  LOL.

Ummm… or this could just be fake. The phone would not ship to retail under an internal ‘code name’.

um, just i small thought before you assume that its not coming to sprint…the image DOES ONLY specify the poster, not the phone so it doesn’t have to be fake, whether it is or not ,is up in the air.
according to several sources, there are actually 5 distinct models, GT-I9250, GT-I9250T, GT-I9250M, SC-04D, and SCH-I515 (though they all look the same) for the Galaxy Nexus. the two that were mentioned include the LTE and HSPA+(verizon and AT&T) there are still 3 more models to take into consideration and some do suspect that there will be a sprint model and an international model. leaving only one…the one being used for overseas.a quote from geek.com…” the SCH-I515 will be the Verizon Wireless variant, packing an LTE and EVDO radio on the inside. Sources suggest the GT-I9250 will go to AT&T, while the GT-I9250T will likely go to T-Mobile. There’s not been any confirmation about the GT-I9250M or the SC-04D, but it seems like a Sprint version and an international version would be all that’s needed to tie this release up in a nice global package.”

It wouldn’t be on Wimax so why bother?

WiMax is a dieing technology, that’s why. If you remember, the motorola xoom was 3g until they opened up the 4g upgrade so, why not? They can introduce the phone on their 3g network and leave the WiMax radio out so that when sprint goes lte in 2012,it can be upgraded to 4g-lte.

why not make it a triband? and jus leave the LTE band off by network default (like sprint adds a bit of programming to make the LTE not work untill the “official” launch date) then it’d really be the flagship phone insted of the iphone
samsung needs to make a phone that can some how through a miracle that works on all major uscarriers (GSM, HSPA+(ATT 4G), CDMA, LTE WIMAX) CAPABLE OF ALL TYPES OF ROAMING WITH A KILLER RADIOS(better than Motorola (who makes the best radios)
sry bout the caps locked words

Who cares about WIMAX?  I live in Phoenix and we’ve had the worst WIMAX deployment ever.  I’ve NEVER been able to connect to 4G anywhere in the valley.  The footprint from each WIMAX tower is tiny, roughly 2-3 square miles.    Last time I checked they had 8 towers in the area…  What’s the point?

Sprint – Bring on the Nexus Prime!

That’s just what I was thinking. To hell with WiMax I don’t use it anyhow too unstable. But if they release an LTE capable device we’d already have a leg up once they throw the LTE switch.

It’ll be LTE, since Sprint is now committed to building out their LTE network instead.
