Galaxy Nexus Release Delays Made Me an iPhone 4S User

Published

on

After becoming a convert from iPhone to Android, I wanted a Galaxy Nexus. It looked like a hot phone that had some awesome features.

I was using a Samsung Infuse 4G when I made my decision regarding my next phone. I like Android and made the shift away from iOS without too much pain, missing only a few of my old apps. Most of them had decent Android counterparts.

My plan was to get another Android phone. When I learned about all the features of the Galaxy Nexus I was hooked, at first. Eventually, even these tempting features couldn’t keep my interest because of one missing piece of information — a definitive release date. This caused me to go with the iPhone 4S instead of the Galaxy Nexus.

Galaxy Nexus Prime

I’m impatient with my tech and wasn’t going to put up with the problems I had with the Infuse 4G until the rumored November release date of the Galaxy Nexus. While I wanted a large screen device that was fast and fluid, I compromised on the screen size when I looked into Siri and all that it could do and potentially will do once it exits beta.

The iPhone 4S isn’t a perfect device and I still often miss the large four inch plus sized screens offered on most Android phones. However, my second biggest frustration with iOS compared to Android was the horrible iOS keyboard. Siri makes that a moot point since I type far less on my iPhone. Android’s voice recognition seldom worked well for me.

I truly believe that if Samsung had given me a firm release date that was within a few weeks of the release of the iPhone 4S I would have continued my Android experience. I’d have left AT&T and iPhone for good, or at least for two years. Whoops!

Now I’m pretty happy with my choice and since I’m an AT&T customer it won’t cost me the hundreds of dollars I would have had to spend breaking my contract to go Verizon. I was willing to pay if the phone had shipped in a timely manner and I may regret my decision once I play with the Galaxy Nexus.

Maybe you’ll be reading a post in the next month about how I’ve flip-flopped again, but I doubt it.

Your loss. You’ll be missing out when we’ve all got our Nexuses.

Fat chance. Wait for the iphone 6 in June/Oct. 2012. LTE with correct battery technology plus enhanced Siri plus 4 inch screen plus aluminum back. Bam.

an ipone 4s has only twice the rom of the original moto droid, and the siri uses google to answer all your Q’s you ask it. There are mods who have put siri on Iphone 4 and it works better than 4S. Plus why get a phone with battery exisistant problems. Plus you only get 15% of the videos on the web w/out flash, granted flash sucks, but with it you can watch videos. Plus Android phones lets you watch shows and some movies for free instead of being forced to pay for music, tv, movies, apps, etc from apple, no thanks

I understand your frustration.  This release has been an absolute mess with the way Verizon has remained silent about _everything_ except that the phone will appear on their network… someday.  I have been continuously a customer for over 15 years, but this makes me really want to leave Verizon Wireless.  I have had enough of their heavy handed meddling in _everything_ and in general being disrespectful of their customers.  HEY VERIZON, YOU HAVE BOTCHED YOUR COMMUNICATIONS REGARDING THIS LAUNCH.  WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR YOUR TO GET A CLUE?  Talk to your customers.  Tell them what is going on.  It’s not that hard to say ‘We are working on the galaxy Nexus and will release it soon.”

WHATTTTT You’re either insane or know nothing about phones. I paid 750 for my Galaxy Nexus and it was worth every penny. Easily the best phone on the market. It’s 100 times better than the iPhone 4S, which I’ve played with because I bought my mom one a while ago. You should return it and buy the GSM G-Nex Kevin.

My wife called verizon today. Told them she wants to buy a nexus for me for christmas. They told her that the nexus wont be out for xmas and that they are still “testing” it out. They told her that when we start seeing commercials on tv for the gnex thats when the phone is close to being released. Verizon needs to stick to one story and stay with it this is ridiclulous¡!!!!!!!!!!!!

Testing stopped a long time ago. Stores already have them in stock. And no one from a Verizon store is going to announce the release date before their corporate office so whoever your wife talked to is full of crap.

I know you will get the Nexus and ditch the iPhone when it comes out because the Nexus is so much cooler! 8D

Stores already have them in stock, they’re just not on the sales floor yet. I know this because several stores have begun selling them by mistake. These news articles are all over the internet. Look it up. The phone will release this month.

I’m not sure how you can say the delays made you an iPhone 4S user, when you have a post on here about pre-ordering the 4S, a phone that released before the Nexus event even happened.

Funny you mention this cuz I’m about to do the exact same thing tomorrow morning. Waited for the Nexus…. fell in love with the Galaxy Note along the way…. not waiting for either. After 2 years of Android use, like you, I’m going back home to Apple. Besides, if I just have to have the Nexus when it comes, I can sell my iPhone for top dollar and buy it outright. iPhone is worth it’s weight in gold on eBay. Some things never change!

I’m sorry, but those of you who say the phone is expected after the new year are full of it. It’s been confirmed for 2011, not to say that it wont slip to the new year but saying that you’ve already been told by Verizon is BS, None of the stores will say a word because it’s not up to them when the phones comes out. In addition to that, Stores already have them in stock, they had a few sold by mistake over the course of the weekend and that means that it’ll be out any day now… hopefully before the end of the week. Those who say IOS is better than ICS are just blinded by brand loyalty because they can not make judgement on a product they have yet to try for themselves.
