Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Gets Closer to Launch

Published

on

Back at the end of February, Samsung introduced two new Galaxy Tab devices in theGalaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the a 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2. Well, one of those, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, has just passed through the FCC today which means it’s one step closer to launch. The filing didn’t reveal any surprises so it’s safe to say that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that we saw arrive at Mobile World Congress will be the one that’s publicly released.

Samsung has yet to give the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 any sort of availability here in the United States but the filing reveals that the device will be able to run on bands that AT&T employs.

Those bands of course are 1900 and 850MHz. So, that should mean that those looking to get this at launch should be able to import one and get it to run here in the U.S. It won’t be cheap though.

This model supports HSPA+ but not 4G LTE.

Also confirmed are 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0, but those shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The Tab 2 10.1 is going to be arriving with a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 (WSVGA) PLS LCD display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, and 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB internal storage options.

So, it will be a viable option for those looking to get a tablet with a large display.

The new iPad’s screen is 9.7-inches, just for reference.

It’ll also arrive with Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box, software that a lot of current Android tablets don’t yet have.

In any event, now that it has passed through the FCC, we should get word on an official release date soon.
