ASUS Transformer Pad 300 Bootloader Unlock Tool Now Available

Published

on

ASUS has released a bootloader unlock tool for the ASUS Transformer Pad 300, one of its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablets.

First discovered by Android Police, the bootloader unlock tool is currently available for download on ASUS’ website. And because it’s an .apk file, Transformer Pad 300 owners should have no trouble unlocking the devices bootloader.

Once the bootloader unlock process is complete, Transformer Pad 300 owners will be able to flash custom ROMs to the device, something that had not been accessible before today.

There is one caveat though. ASUS warns that using the bootloader unlock tool will void the warranty on the device. So, for those that are accident prone, it might be worth holding off on unlocking the bootloader.

Here is ASUS’ full statement in regards to the bootloader:

Notice:
1. Only suitable for Andriod4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS version.
2. Before you download, install, and use the Unlock Device App you acknowledge and assume complete risk to the quality and performance of this App, including but not limited to the following: once you activate the App you will not be able to recover your ASUS product (“Original Product”) back to original locked conditions;the Original Product with the activated App will not be deemed the Original Product; the Revised Product will no longer be covered under the warranty of the Original Product; the software of Revised Product will no longer be deemed the software of the Original Product and can no longer receive ASUS software updates; your purchased digital content may also be affected.

So, again, owners will want to be completely sure that this is something they want to do.

The Transformer Pad 300 came out last month and features a Tegra 3 quad-core processor from NVIDIA, a 10.1” IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, a 9.9mm design, 1GB of RAM, and up to 10 hours of battery life.

It also comes with a pretty affordable price tag as a 32GB version of the tablet is a mere $399.99 at Amazon.

It will soon be joined by the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity which is slated to be released at some point in the future. Hopefully, it will have its bootloader unlocked as quickly as the Transformer Pad 300’s.

Kudos, ASUS.
