iPhone 5 with Global 4G LTE a Done Deal, Says WSJ

A new report claims that Apple’s new iPhone 5, expected to launch at an event on September 12th, will feature support for 4G LTE networks around the world.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple’s next iPhone, presumed to be called the iPhone 5, will indeed feature 4G LTE connectivity, something that has been rumored for quite some time.

The device will apparently have support for the service in regions like the U.S., Europe and Asia though the report says that it may not be available on every carrier.

Apple Inc.’s next iPhone will work on the fastest wireless networks around the world—including in the U.S., Europe and Asia—though it is unlikely to be available on every carrier, people familiar with the matter said.

If true, this would be Apple’s second foray into the world of 4G LTE as the third-generation iPad, which launched in March of 2012, features 4G LTE connectivity with AT&T and Verizon.

However, the device did not support 4G LTE networks in places like Australia. The iPhone 5, unlike the new iPad, looks like it might not run into that issue based on this new rumor.

This would make the iPhone 5 the first iPhone with this kind of capability, one that has been employed by Android devices since the launch of the HTC ThunderBolt back in March of 2011.

4G LTE data would allow the iPhone 5 to pull down data speeds up to 10 times faster than normal 3G data speeds. These speeds will allow users to stream smoother content while on the go and load up content more quickly in general.

It’s unclear what kind of battery life Apple will offer with the iPhone 5 as 4G LTE has proved to be a big battery drain for past and current phones which use the feature. If it’s anything like the new iPad, Apple will not have sacrificed much, if any battery life for 4G LTE.

iPhone 5 Rumors

The new iPhone is apparently going to be coming with a new design that is slimmer and taller and features a 4-inch display and a metal back. It also supposedly has a headphone jack on the bottom of the device along with a new smaller dock connector. Other rumors include a new HD front-facing camera, and an improve processor.
