It appears as though the official Samsung Galaxy S3 extended battery release date is almost here with Amazon seemingly set to release the highly anticipated accessory in Germany in early January.

According to a listing from Amazon Germany, found by Android Central, the official Galaxy S3 extended battery is poised to be released to the public on January 5th. This is the first release date that we’ve seen for the Samsung Extended Battery Kit for the Galaxy S3 and it could be a sign that Samsung is about ready to get this accessory out to the world-at-large.

Earlier in the month, we saw the accessory arrive at UK retailer MobileFun though there is still no shipping date attached and the retailer says that the accessory isn’t going to be shipping out for two months.

The Galaxy S3 battery could use some more juice.

The Amazon listing has the device listed at €48 though the MobileFun listing has the Galaxy S3 extended battery for much cheaper, checking in with a €39.99 price tag. For Americans, that means either $63.44 or $52.44. We haven’t heard about if or when the extended battery will be arriving officially in the United States though given that the U.S. does have several variants of the Galaxy S3, it’s certainly possible that Samsung will opt to bring it there.

Samsung’s official battery kit provides a massive 3000 mAh battery that nearly puts it on par with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The Galaxy Note 2, Samsung’s 5.5-inch phablet,   offers a large 3100 mAh battery out of the box.

The stock Galaxy S3 battery is a small 2100 mAh battery which means that owners of the Galaxy S3 who pick up the official battery kit, will be adding a whole 900 mAh’s of power to the device. This is a big deal for those whose phone is attached to their hip.

What’s more, according to this video unearthed by All About Samsung, the case shouldn’t add too much bulk, keeping the Galaxy S3 surprisingly thin. The full tour of the extended battery can be seen in the video below.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been on sale since May meaning that if the official Galaxy S3 extended battery does get released on January 5th, it will have taken Samsung about six months to release the accessory to customers.

That’s not to say there has been a shortage of batteries for the Galaxy S3. Galaxy S3 owners have been able to choose from batteries like the Hyperion Samsung Galaxy SIII 4200mAh Extended Battery, an absolutely massive battery pack for those that need a ton of juice and the Mugen Power 4600 mAh Extended Battery with NFC.

executive summary, the 3000MAH samsung battery is nearly as powerful as a 4500MAH chinese battery (onite?) however it does not use the original cover and will need different cases than the original and does not have a flip cover that the guy in the video likes.

however the 4500MAH battery is cheaper and better fits a courser hand.

i have the hyperion 4200MAH and I can attest that it lasts a real long time. Used it this weekend and got 42 hours and hours of screentime with no issues. I’ll probably still get this battery with the 50% off coupon that samsung gives away for registering your phone.
