Motorola Droid RAZR Ultra, RAZR M Ultra Rumored for Verizon

It looks like Google won’t kill off the Motorola Droid RAZR series, at least not yet, as two new Droid RAZR smartphones, the Droid RAZR Ultra and Droid RAZR M Ultra, are rumored for the nation’s largest 4G LTE service provider, Verizon Wireless.

Earlier this year, Motorola announced its first big name smartphone of the year in the form of the Moto X, a device that is thought to be coming out this summer to a number of carriers in the United States. In the past, many of Motorola’s devices have arrived on Verizon under the Droid RAZR banner. With Google at the helm now, many believed that the Droid series or RAZR series or both might be done. However, a new leak suggests that it’s not over, at least not yet.

The Motorola Droid RAZR Ultra could replace the Droid RAZR HD on Verizon.

The reliable @evleaks suggests that at least two new Droid RAZR devices will be heading to Verizon at some point in the future including a Droid RAZR Ultra, and Droid RAZR M Ultra. It’s unclear what the Ultra in the name means or whether there will be a Droid RAZR Ultra MAXX like there was with the new Droid RAZR HD models that arrived in 2012.

Information about either model is scarce though because they are Motorola devices, they will almost certainly be coming with a well-built design to go along with some high-powered specifications. The Ultra in the names could be referring to high-end specs, including a 1080p resolution display, common place amongst Android flagships in 2013, or perhaps even a quad-core processor. Both of those missed the Droid RAZR HD series.

It’s also not clear if these will be Verizon exclusives though given the Droid and RAZR branding, home to Verizon, we imagine that they will, at least at the start, be available on Verizon Wireless only.

As for release dates, nothing is known though we don’t expect them to launch before the Moto X, the device that Motorola touted for the summer only a few short weeks ago.
