Verizon HTC One Off-Contract Price Confirmed

Published

The Verizon HTC One release date is set for August 22nd and while many of the launch details are confirmed, one last detail has snuck out ahead of the device’s release.

Last week, after weeks of rumors, the Verizon HTC One was finally given a release date, pricing and more. The device, which was originally announced back in early June, will be arriving on shelves, both physical and virtual, on August 22nd. While it announced a release date, Verizon did not issue a press release and instead choosing to offer only the smallest amount of detail required ahead of launch.

The Verizon HTC One will arrive on Thursday.

Several details trickled out after the announcement including the fact that it will be coming with Android 4.2.2, the first HTC One to rock Android 4.2 in the United States, that it will be coming in 32GB form and not 64GB, and that it will be available in silver only with black and blue options left out of the device’s initial launch.

While most questions have been answered already, there was one lingering question that Verizon has finally confirmed this week. The 32GB Verizon HTC One on-contract will cost $199.99, same as the AT&T and Sprint models and now, we know exactly how much Verizon will be charging off-contract, something key to those that wish to keep unlimited data plans.

Verizon has confirmed that the device will cost $599.99 off-contract, same price that rival AT&T charges for its 32GB HTC One. This is a steep price but it was to be expected as off-contract pricing for top flight phones typically falls in the $600 to $650 range.

This is a key confirmation not only for those who are unwilling to sign a contract but also for those that wish to keep an unlimited data plan. Verizon allows its customers grandfathered into an unlimited data plan to keep that plan if they pay the off-contract price of the phone.

Wirefly is currently the only place taking pre-orders for the Verizon HTC One and it’s offering the device for $149.99, or, $50 off Verizon’s $199.99 price tag. The retailer sells the Verizon HTC One off-contract but for $650, a $50 increase over Verizon’s asking price.

Verizon’s HTC One joins a lineup that is already powered by the Samsung Galaxy S4, Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx and one that will soon boast the Moto X as well.

Still no official word about the HTC One on Verizon’s website. Their twitter account confirmed a August 22nd release date but still nothing on the website. It’s the 21st today!

Update: Just got a call from my local Verizon store saying the phone will be available tomorrow. I had left my number with them yesterday regarding any updates about the phone. The employee who contacted me told me they would have only 10 units available tomorrow to sell. He offered to put one phone on hold for me exclusively and gave me his personal cell phone number to call him before I came to the store. Yay customer service.

Just a heads up, the HTC One that wirefly is promoting ships with Jellybean 4.1 not 4.2.2. I confirmed this with their sales team.
