AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Halted

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, which began rolling out last week, has reportedly been halted while AT&T looks into some issues that are apparently on board the software.

Last week, right on cue, the AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update started rolling out to owners of the aging flagship smartphone, a smartphone that was released all the way back in April. Since April, the device has been running on Android 4.2, making Android 4.3 Jelly Bean a pretty big deal to Galaxy S4 owners in the United States and around the world.

The Galaxy S4 wireless charger slips inside the back, so cases still work.

A leak suggested that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update would land last week and it did, pushing out Over-the-Air to users touting the 5-inch smartphone. However, it now appears that AT&T has pulled the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, temporarily, as it attempts to fix some issues that evidently are on board the new software.

Android Police says that it has confirmed the bad news and that AT&T has indeed stopped deploying the update to Galaxy S4 owners. There is currently no timetable for its return which means that users who installed the software will have to deal with it for the time being and those that didn’t receive the OTA will be on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for at least a little longer.

We could see a metal Samsung Galaxy S4 in early 2014.

This is the second black eye for Samsung in recent days. The company was forced to halt the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update due to a number of issues plaguing the software. And while issues don’t seem to be as prevalent with AT&T’s Galaxy S4 update, it’s still not a good look for a company who is usually on the ball with these updates.

The next Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is slated for November 18th with T-Mobile’s Galaxy S4 next in line for the software. It’s not clear if these issues will affect the carrier’s roll out or if the software will roll out that day. Already, we’ve seen Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 updates miss their presumed dates so it’s possible that we could see T-Mobile take a few extra days to make sure its software is ready to go.

We’ve reached out to AT&T for more details about the stoppage and we’ll let users know as soon as we hear back from Ma Bell.
