Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Release on Hold for Improvements

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the GT-I9500 variant has reportedly entered testing though it appears that there is still some work to be done as the Android 4.4 update is thought to not be stable enough for release.

Samsung hasn’t announced anything just yet but it’s clear that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is on the way. Not only have rumors and a French carrier pinpointed the release date for a date in January, February or March, but we have also seen Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat test firmware leak out twice. In fact, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 update leaked out earlier today.

However, it appears that at least one version of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is not ready for release as SamMobile, a site plugged in behind the scenes at Samsung, claims that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the GT-I9500 variant, the international version, is still not ready for release.

Evidently, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the GT-I9500 has just entered testing and the software isn’t considered to be stable enough to release to the public. So, clearly, Samsung needs more time to work out the kinks inside the update before it releases it to owners of the international model, a model that figures to be either first, or close to first in line for Android 4.4.

Samsung received a black eye during the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out thanks to numerous bugs that were discovered lurking on board the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. The company was not only forced to issue an apology to some Galaxy S3 owners, it was also forced to halt several Galaxy S4 updates in the United States.

The company still hasn’t announced an update for the Galaxy S4 even as the company rolls out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy Note 3. That update began earlier this week and has, thus far, only landed for users in Poland. The update is expected to land for other users in the near future.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is expected to mirror the Galaxy Note 3’s update. The Galaxy Note 3 did not bring any major UI changes to the table and instead, offers incremental changes to users. Galaxy S4 update leaks point to a small update, similar to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that rolled out last year.

With as horrible as the Wi-Fi has been on the S4 since the 4.3 update, I’d hope they spend an extra month doing extra QA on it before releasing it. Else they cause even more customer loss.
