The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update cleared some important hurdles today as Samsung not only announced the update’s roll out for the United States but it also deployed a new update for current Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat users that evidently fixes an issue with third-party accessories.

Earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update started pushing out. Shortly after it arrived, Galaxy Note 3 owners in Poland and Russia, the regions that first saw the update, complained about a major problem.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, it seemed, had a problem with some third-party accessories. In particular, cases like Spigen’s S-View case stopped working properly after KitKat’s arrival. Initially, Samsung claimed that while there was indeed an issue, it likely wasn’t related to Android 4.4. Soon after, the company backtracked and said that it was indeed Android 4.4 KitKat causing the problem. It said that it would issue a fix in a future update.

According to users on XDA-Developers, that update has arrived in Poland, SamMobile also says that it has arrived in Russia, and it has apparently wiped out the bug that impacted third-party accessories. The update that is rolling out is build number N9005XXUENB3 and it should be available to at least some Galaxy Note 3 users in those regions today. This is a hurdle that the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update needed to clear and it’s a good sign for Galaxy Note 3 users in other areas.

Since the emergence of the accessory issue, we haven’t seen the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update spread. Usually, Galaxy Android updates start landing for a good majority of devices several weeks after they start rolling out. The Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been available for a month now. It could be that Samsung was waiting for a fix before pushing the update live for other regions and devices.

This likely means that upcoming updates for the United States and other parts of the world will not have this problem on board and third-party accessories should function normally.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review

Interestingly, the update arrives on the same day that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 cleared another hurdle. Today, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update for the United States, just a few short days after the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update touched down for Sprint.

We still haven’t seen any carriers confirm the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, but it’s now clear that it will be landing in the United States at some point in the near future.

Samsung also confirmed updates for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and a handful of other Galaxy-branded smartphones and tablets available in the United States. The company was quick to note that release dates will depend on the carrier and will vary.
