The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 release continues in the U.S., paving the way for the update to hit more carriers in the coming weeks with important fixes included. This new Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 roll out beats the Verizon and T-Mobile Galaxy S4 updates to release.

For the last month T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update information trickled out through leaks and developer postings showing users that the release was close, culminating in the posting of the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update source code on a Samsung site last week.

This morning another Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 release in the U.S. starts rolling out to Note 3 owners on the T-Mobile network. With this move T-Mobile users can expect to see an update notification this morning or they can manually check for a new update. Users started reporting the new Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 release this morning on Twitter.

Users can download this official Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update without messing around with any of the variety of ROMS built off leaked versions of Android 4.4 or rooting, which is more attractive to the average user.

If there is no notification on the Galaxy Note 3 about the Android 4.4.2 update users can go to Settings -> More -> About device -> Software update. This will force the Galaxy Note 3 to search for the Android 4.4 update. If the update is not found users will need to try again later. Normally the software prompts users to wait several hours between checking.

Users will need to connect to WiFi to download the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update and should expect to spend some time waiting for the download and the update to install. The T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update is nearly 500MB in size.

The Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 release brings new Android 4.4 features and a collection of bug fixes to the device. Users should not expect to see the new TouchWiz and Samsung apps shown off at the Galaxy S5 launch event last month. There is not a full list of T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update fixes and features, but users should expect some T-Mobile performance updates as well as new features like;

  • Improved performance of multitasking
  • New caller ID
  • Hangouts SMS support
  • Emoji
  • Printing support
  • Tap & Pay mobile payments
  • and more.

Users may see a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update problems with apps accessing the Micro SD card due to changes by Google. We tested this on the Android 4.4 Galaxy S4 update and found some apps cannot write to the SD card while others can. It is possible that this update will bring other small issues for some users.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 release is still missing for T-Mobile and Verizon users, but with this release and the roll out on Sprint and AT&T the update should arrive soon. We expect to see the remaining Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 releases dates land in March, alongside the missing Galaxy Note 3 updates.
