New Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 Update Rolling Out

Published

on

A new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is pushing out to the Verizon Galaxy S5 and this new Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is a big one as it preps Samsung’s flagship for VoLTE.

At the beginning of June, Google released two new Android 4.4 KitKat updates. First was Android 4.4.3. A few days later, the company pushed out Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Both were, and still are, bug fixers aimed at squashing major Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems and they continue to land for key devices in the build up to Google’s Android L release.

In the past three months, we’ve seen several Android manufacturers make it a point to deliver these two updates to smartphone and tablet users. And while it waited several weeks, Samsung finally joined the Android 4.4.4 KitKat party a few days ago as it, and its carrier partners, work to improve their big name devices.

One of the devices that’s in the midst of an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update push is the Samsung Galaxy S5. Just about a week ago, the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update hit the Verizon Galaxy S5. The update was a bit of a surprise given how slow Verizon typically is to Android updates. The update’s change log was never publicized though there’s chatter about it fixing a Bluetooth issue. Today though, Verizon is rolling out a bunch larger Android 4.4.4 KitKat build.

This new Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update comes with a change log attached. It’s not as big as Android L but this update is going to deliver some key changes to Galaxy S5 users on Big Red.

  • More tracking features added to S-Health including Weight, Sleep, Stress and Coach.
  • The Emergency Call dialer on the lock screen is now accessed with a swipe motion of the Emergency button (same as camera).
  • The camera shutter sound can be turned on/off in camera settings.
  • The notification screen (pull-down) will now display the correct number of unread emails.
  • Bluetooth headset loss of audio has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue when using Knox where the Caller ID and linked contact information sometimes did not match.
  • Prepares your device for the new Advanced Calling 1.0 feature coming soon from Verizon.

There’s a bunch of stuff there but the thing to key in on is Advanced Calling 1.0 otherwise known as VoLTE otherwise known as Voice Over LTE. VoLTE will make calls sound better and clearer and it will finally let users use the internet and talk on the phone at the same time. This is a huge development for Verizon smartphone users and it makes this an update worth installing.

Verizon’s Galaxy S5 is still the only Galaxy S5 in the United States with Android 4.4.4 KitKat on board though other models are expected to join it at some point in the future.

Galaxy S5 Review - 6

We recently spotted the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update lurking on Sprint’s website though it still hasn’t been released. It’s not clear when Sprint plans to release the update but given its appearance and Verizon’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll out, we could potentially be close to another U.S. Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

The Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update isn’t the only Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in town either. We’ve also seen roll outs for the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4 though both of those updates, like the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, remain limited. It’s not clear if Samsung’s plans include all versions of these devices or if it will be selective.

Look for more Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4.4 KitKat update details to pop up as we continue on the road to Google’s Android L release later on this year.

You have always been able to surf the Internet and talk on the phone at the same time. That was only with the iPhone where you couldn’t do both simultaneously.

Weird I’m still 4.4.2 and I just downloaded an update from T-Mobile that mentioned something about VoLTE.

I have the Note 3 for Verizon. Is there any way to tell if I’ll be getting the update soon ? I keep checking my updates regularly. I want it!

If you have a mircoSD card on your S5 – the device will no longer recognize the card. Mine was working fine, I loaded the update, ka-boom I started receiving errors. I was on the internet and went to save a photo and a Google Screen App came up offering (wanting) me to start saving my photos on Google.com – No Google you can not have them or my videos.

Being a photographer, 16 mpix cam, and cool apps combine with larger files I bought the microSD card to store while on trips. It is now worthless. I still works on my PC/Laptop and with it’s standard adapter – it works in my cameras.
