Earlier this year LG announced its brand new flagship G3 smartphone. Offering one of the best overall devices so far in 2014 with top-tier specs, an impressive 5.5-inch Quad-HD display like the Nexus 6, and extremely small bezels making for a big screen but a small, pocketable and portable handset. But software plays a key roll in a smartphone release, and updates need to be timely.

In the past LG hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to updates, but they aim to change that in 2014 and 2015. LG will be the first global smartphone manufacturer to deliver the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade in 2014, starting with the LG G3 in Poland, and other regions in the very near future.

LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.

Above is a quote from the LG G3 press release that went out this weekend confirming the LG G3 Android 5.0 update is coming this week. There’s no solid release date, except that in Poland users will start to see the update arrive via the usual over the air update method before the end of the week.

This is only for Poland, and surely the LG G3 update in the manufacturers home region will receive is extremely soon as well, but we’ve yet to receive any details regarding the LG G3 Android 5.0 update in the United States. Typically software needs to be finished, then go through a 3-4 week testing phase from respective carriers. This means that while the LG G3 update has started this week outside the US, owners stateside shouldn’t expect it for at least a few more weeks, at best.

The LG G3 Android 5.0 update in the United States was originally stated to arrive before the end of the year, but at this rate we could see it inside the month of November, or by early December. As soon as LG or carriers confirm any details, or additional leaks surface, we’ll update will everything you’ll need to know.

Also, for those with the LG G2, we’ve also received confirmation that it will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop, but that may not arrive until early 2015. We’ll have to wait and see.
