Video game developer Ubisoft and hard-core gamers are reeling after a huge leak of early promotional materials revealed all the necessary details about Assassin’s Creed Victory. It’s the follow-up to this year’s Assassin’s Creed Unity made exclusive for PC, PS4 and the Xbox One.

Video game website Kotaku revealed the setting, game engine details and broad release details for Assassin’s Creed Victory in a report late yesterday. Inside that report was also a pretty long description of some of the gameplay users can expect when Assassin’s Creed Victory arrives on store shelves sometime next year too. Ubisoft, the series’ publisher, later confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Victory is the next game it has plans to release and that it’s being developed by a different internal studio than Assassin’s Creed games normally are.

Assassin’s Creed Victory will leave continental Europe for Great Britain. More specifically, the game’s primary setting will be London, England. Players will once again take the reigns as an Assassin trying to hunt down and stop the Templar Order from forcing bad things on the world in the name of fairness and equality. Typically, Ubisoft has added and refreshed weapons in the series to give each game a fresh feeling. That’s what they’re doing here too.

There’s no word yet if the Phantom Blade from Assassin’s Creed Unity will be available in this new game, but there is a new grappling gun described in this week’s report. If it’s being described correctly than players will be able to perform assassinations and quickly travel just about anywhere.

Most people around the world are familiar with Queen Victoria and will recognize the name. That might give them the impression that Ubisoft is quickly approaching the modern world and may run out of interesting world-class settings sometime soon. Queen Victoria was reigning monarch of the British Empire from 1876 to 1901. That is a fairly modern setting as far as the series goes. Assassin’s Creed Unity took place in the late 1700s during the French Revolution.

Kotaku was able to gather details about Assassin’s Creed Victoria from a promotional video that a leaker supplied it with. The outlet didn’t post that video, but however it did describe having to fight Templars on top of a train. According to that video, Assassin’s Creed Victory uses Anvil, the same engine from Assassin’s Creed Unity. This ensures that’ll only be available for current generation console owners. It’s also sure to be controversial for reasons other than Xbox 360 and PS3 users not being able to get the game.

Assassin’s Creed games have long had a few bugs at lunch. Assassin’s Creed Unity launched this past November with a staggering amount of issues. Technical issues actually prevented those who had the game installing when they first opened it, from finishing the story. Playing before a game is fully downloaded is one of the hallmarks of next-generation consoles. Sometimes character’s faces disappeared entirely, leaving just their mouth, hair clothing and eyeballs. Even more worrying were the big hits in frame rates. Assassin’s Creed Unity was an absolutely beautiful game, with very realistic lighting. Unfortunately, at particularly scenic areas the game stuttered heavily. Enemies disappeared into walls in some occasions. Some players even reported that their character, Arno Dorian, simply fell through the landscape without warning. Assassin’s Creed Unity also had a problem with crashing without warning.

If Assassin’s Creed Victory is going to use the Anvil engine than Ubisoft will have to prove that it’s made improvements for stability and consistent visuals. Many people are calling for Ubisoft to shelve the franchise for a year and take more time to develop the next title in the series. Those calls don’t exactly make sense though, Assassin’s Creed games are simply released every year. They are not developed in just a year.

We can expect Assassin’s Creed Victory to arrive on store shelves in the fall of 2015.
