A number of new Samsung Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop update details have emerged today, straight from Samsung, and they include release date details for owners of the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3.

For weeks, we heard rumors about Samsung’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update release plans. We heard that the company was hard at work on several Lollipop updates including upgrades for the Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 3. These four devices represent four of its latest and most popular phones so the news didn’t come as a complete surprise.

Those details though came from leaks, rumors and in the later stages, carriers themselves. Samsung though continued to remain silent, even as competitors trotted out specific Android 5.0 Lollipop details for their flagship devices. This week, all of that changed, and the company is finally willing to talk about its plans for the future and its Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop updates.

Earlier this week, Samsung started rolling out a Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update to users in Poland. As expected, the update delivers a number of big time changes including Google’s brand new Material Design. In accordance with Google’s wishes, Samsung redesigned many of its key applications to fit the new look of Google’s brand new update.

Today, the Galaxy S5 Lollipop release has spread to several other variants in South Korea, Samsung’s home base. The Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update is rolling out to the variants on KT, SK Telecom and LG U+. The updates are rolling out OTA but they’re also available through Samsung Kies. This information has been confirmed by Samsung through Vincent Se Young Lee, a Reuters correspondent based on Seoul.

On the heels of that roll out, Samsung’s also confirmed a series of other Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop details. Lee suggests that the company’s confirmed a total of four new Android 5.0 Lollipop updates and that all four of them will be rolling out in the early part of next year. This is in line with old information so it appears that early leaks and carrier details were spot on.

Samsung claims that it will be releasing the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, Galaxy S4 Lollipop update, and the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Lollipop update in the early part of next year. This matches what French carrier SFR said about the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 release. The carrier recently stated that it planned to roll the software out in January.

The Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update release had been rumored for early 2015 and this new information confirms those rumors. The timing for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5 LTE-A is new but not unexpected. Samsung typically rolls out its major updates to key Galaxy Note and Galaxy S models in and around the same time.

Samsung did not confirm any specific release date details though that’s not too surprising. The company rarely announces firm release date details ahead of time due to the fact that software releases are heavily dependent on the testing process and the software testing process is extremely unpredictable. Samsung prefers silence over potential ETAs.

Releases for carrier branded models will depend on Samsung’s testing and internal testing at various carriers. We know that SFR is planning to deliver Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates and we also know that U.S. carrier Sprint has the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update in for testing. Specific release dates for that trio remain unknown though with the Galaxy S5 Lollipop release heating up, we could see new information emerge in the near future.

For now, a majority of Samsung Galaxy users must prepare for an Android 5.0 Lollipop release in 2015. Look for more specific information to emerge later this month or in the early part of next year.
