Assassin’s Creed Victory Release Confirmed?

Published

on

Ubisoft has been pretty quiet about its future plans for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, but it appears we may have all the information we need to speculate about a release date for the next game in the series. Ubisoft confirmed it had a new Assassin’s Creed game coming this year, suggesting that the Assassin’s Creed Victory game leaked last year will arrive sometime in the fall or winter of 2015.

Video game website IGN is reporting that Ubisoft confirmed it had plans to release a new entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise during a call discussing its earnings and plans for future growth with investors. A new Assassin’s Creed title is just one of the five big-name titles that Ubisoft said it had plans to introduce during its earnings call. It also confirmed that The Division and Rainbow Six Siege were on its list of games coming this year. Speaking during the call, CEO Yves Guillemot noted that Ubisoft hopes its investments in new games that aren’t direct sequels to past games will help bolster its new fiscal year.

To be clear, Guillemot, nor anyone else on the call, confirmed the setting or name of the Assassin’s Creed game coming later this year. The developer only confirmed that it has plans to talk about the game in another call this coming May and that it’d launch this year. That isn’t stopping most gaming insiders from assuming that the game is Assassin’s Creed Victory.

Assassin’s Creed Victory’s existence was leaked just weeks after the troubled launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity late last year by Kotaku.

Allegedly, Assassin’s Creed Victory will take players to London, England during the reign of Queen Victoria – hence its name. Users will still take on the role as a member of the Assassin Order trying to stop the Templars from controlling the world. In the scene described in the article, players are first tasked with assassinating a Templar while riding on a horse-drawn carriage.

News about specific Assassin weaponry is hard to come by, but the report did indicate that a grappling hook would feature heavily in Assassin’s Creed Victory. This grappling gun would, reportedly, make traversing the English metropolis easier.

That Ubisoft is planning on release a new Assassin’s Creed game so soon after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity is sure to attract some raised eyebrows. Launched in November of last year, Unity players had issues from the start. Cut scenes in the PC version of the game sometimes lacked faces.

The Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game had random issues that most believe should have been fixed before they were ever released. Sometimes the game would simply crash without warning. Other times, users found themselves stuck on the top of buildings or falling through the game’s terrain. When some tried to hide in the game’s straw covered wagons they often got stuck.

Ubisoft quickly moved to fix these issues, but the damage was done. By the time Assassin’s Creed Unity was in working order the franchise had become synonymous with developers selling games that they knew weren’t ready for users.

If this coming Assassin’s Creed game is Assassin’s Creed Victory, Ubisoft is in for some interesting commentary anyway. Allegedly, Victory uses Anvil, the same engine that Unity had. By the time the game has made its way to store shelves Ubisoft should have been able to work out the issues, but there will be a lot of gamers who’ll need convincing.

Due to them having the same engine, it’s assumed that Assassin’s Creed Victory will be available on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 only when it arrives. Those are the same platforms that offered Assassin’s Creed Unity.
