Sprint Galaxy S6 Release “Coming Soon”

Published

on

The Sprint Galaxy S6 release is confirmed which leaves U.S. Cellular and Verizon as the only major U.S. carriers that haven’t confirmed an upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 release in the United States.

Yesterday, ahead of Samsung’s March 1st Unpacked event, U.S. carriers started to tease the Galaxy S6 release and release date. T-Mobile kicked things off with a sign up page for interested customers. The carrier’s sign up page does not reveal a specific Galaxy S6 release date but it allows consumers to sign up for more information that’s expected to arrive on March 1st during Samsung’s event at Mobile World Congress 2015.

Not to be outdone, AT&T also confirmed a Galaxy S6 release. The AT&T Galaxy S6 splash page includes a sign up for those curious about the Galaxy S6 and it also delivers a specific Galaxy S6 release date window. Samsung says that the Galaxy S6 will arrive in Spring 2015 which means that it will likely arrive sometime after March 20th, the first day of Spring in the U.S.

The Sprint Galaxy S6 release is "coming soon" according to the carrier.

A short time later, another U.S. carrier confirmed a Galaxy S6 release. Sprint, one of the largest carriers in the United States, has also confirmed a Galaxy S6 release through a splash page that teases a curved device underneath the “Six Appeal” tag line.

The Sprint Galaxy S6 release date isn’t confirmed on the page though the company is taking pre-registrations for those that want to arm themselves with official information from the carrier itself. Sprint’s Galaxy S6 registration page states that the Galaxy S6 is “Coming Soon” and details about the new smartphone are imminent.

Sprint’s Galaxy S6 splash page also states that:

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

This is important because it means that the Sprint Galaxy S6 release is not imminent. Smartphones like the Galaxy S6 must gain FCC approval before they hit shelves and so far, we haven’t seen a single U.S.-bound Galaxy S6 variant cruise through the FCC.

Sprint’s Galaxy S6 release confirmation means that there are now just two major carriers left. The U.S. Cellular Galaxy S6 release and Verizon Galaxy S6 release both remain unconfirmed though both carriers are rumored to have the Galaxy S6 on tap for later this year.

AT&T’s Spring 205 launch window aligns with Galaxy S6 release date rumors. Rumors point to a possible release somewhere between March 22nd and March 30th and April 19th to April 27th. Those dates refer to blackout dates for Samsung employees. Companies often use blackout dates to ensure that they’re at full strength during major product launches.

Samsung’s widely expected to have two Galaxy S6 models up its sleeve, one regular and one curved like the Galaxy Note Edge, and that could explain why there are two distinct blackout dates.

Carriers aren’t the only ones teasing the Galaxy S6 release. We discovered a placeholder for the Samsung Galaxy S6 inside of a Best Buy location, another sign that the Galaxy S6 release in the U.S., and perhaps in general, could come a little bit faster than years past. We’ve also seen international retailers, carriers, and even Samsung itself start teasing the Galaxy S6’s arrival ahead of its launch date.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is widely expected to feature a number of big time upgrades including a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, a new design that features premium materials, a swipe-based fingerprint sensor, tons of internal storage, an upgraded camera, an improved front-facing camera, a new Exynos 7 octo-core processor, Android 5.0 Lollipop with a toned down version of TouchWiz, and more.
