Verizon Galaxy S6 Release: 7 Things to Know Right Now

Published

on

Yesterday, Verizon confirmed the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Like its fellow U.S. carriers, Verizon confirmed some release details but it failed to confirm them all. In the hours since that confirmation, we’ve seen some new details emerge and today we want to take an in-depth look at what we know currently about the upcoming Verizon Galaxy S6 release.

In the months leading up to the Sunday’s Samsung Galaxy S6 launch date, we had heard that Verizon would be among the U.S. carriers getting the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Several Galaxy S6 rumors hinted at a widespread arrival in the United States and sure enough, U.S. carriers were quick to confirm their arrival after yesterday’s launch event.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are both official and they will be heading to all five major U.S. carriers which includes AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon. The regular Samsung Galaxy S6 will also be heading to Cricket Wireless, Boost Mobile, and MetroPCS, three smaller U.S. carriers.

In the aftermath of the Galaxy S6 announcement, we took an in-depth look at the Galaxy S6 release situation for the U.S. and for regions around the world. As we’ve noted, despite these confirmations, there are still a ton of Galaxy S6 release details missing.

In the past 24 hours, we’ve seen new details emerge including new release information for the Verizon Galaxy S6. With those details in mind, we want to detail everything we currently know about the Verizon Galaxy S6 release and release date. This will help those of you thinking about buying the Verizon Galaxy S6 prepare ahead of Verizon’s upcoming release.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Release Date Info From Verizon

Verizon hasn’t confirmed specific release dates for the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge so we still don’t know if Verizon will be a part of Samsung’s initial April 10th Galaxy S6 release. We have our suspicions but nothing is confirmed.

The carrier has, however, confirmed Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release dates for early Q2. Q2 spans from April until June. Early Q2 hints at an arrival in April though if the carrier is planning a fast release, it isn’t saying.

U.S. Cellular says that it plans to release the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in April. We doubt that it will be alone. With Verizon saying Q2, we could certainly see it push the phone live next month alongside its rival.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Release Date Moves Closer

Verizon might be silent about the release date but we know that the Verizon Galaxy S6 release date is getting closer. We know this because the Galaxy S6 just passed through the FCC’s clutches. The filing is for the SM-G920V, the Verizon Galaxy S6 model number.

FCC approval is necessary before a phone can be sold in the United States and its approval means that Verizon is now one step closer to an announcement and one step closer to the official release date. The fact that it got approval this early could mean that the release is on the fast track.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge Release Date Also Moves Closer

Not to be outdone, the Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge, also known as the SM-G925V, has also crossed the FCC’s path on its way to shelves. Again, this is a requirement for all smartphones and the fact that it has cruised through is a sign that we’re getting very close to an announcement and release.

Verizon’s two models are two of the three models that we’ve caught passing through the FCC. The other is the T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge which, like the Verizon model, is without an official release date.

Sign Up Page

In case you missed it, it’s worth knowing that Verizon has a sign up page for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge live on its website. The sign up page doesn’t offer much in terms of release information but it does allow interested buyers to input their email address to learn more once Verizon has details to share. Verizon will send out mass emails once its release and price are confirmed though there’s always a chance that a leak could spoil the fun ahead of time.

Retailers

Samsung’s confirmed that these two models will arrive in Best Buy’s Samsung experience shops, Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart. Best Buy is already busy promoting the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Best-Buy

Best Buy always carries AT&T, Sprint and Verizon phones and there’s a very good chance that it will stock the Verizon Galaxy S6. Same with Amazon. Best Buy is promoting AT&T, Sprint and Verizon phones on its latest mailer so we should see the Verizon model emerge there in the future.

Galaxy S6 Branding

For those concerned with the actual Verizon Galaxy S6 design, Verizon’s posted a photo of what the device will look like when it arrives later this year. The Galaxy S6 Edge will be branded with both the device name and the carrier’s name.

Same goes for the regular version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 which can be seen in the top right corner of the shots below. Some people loathe the fact that the carrier loves to promote itself on the backs of its flagship smartphones so consider this your PSA.

If you buy the Verizon Galaxy S6 variant, you’re going to have to deal with the branding.

Galaxy S6 Price

Verizon still hasn’t announced the Galaxy S6 price though we do have one single clue. A T-Mobile Galaxy S6 contest reveals the device’s ARV or its Approximate Retail Value. According to T-Mobile, the Galaxy S6’s ARV is $699. That doesn’t mean that carrier’s will charge $699 off-contract for the Galaxy S6 but it does give us a possible range.

Galaxy-S6-10

Last year’s Galaxy S5 arrived with an ARV of $700. Verizon charges $600 off-contract for it. So we’re expecting a Galaxy S6 price that’s in the range of $600-700. And thanks to pricing in Europe, we know that the Galaxy S6 Edge is probably going to be a lot more than the regular mode so if you’re leaning towards the Edge, you’re probably looking at an extremely expensive phone off-contract on Verizon.
