US Galaxy S6 Release Date Passes Roadblock

Published

on

The US Samsung Galaxy S6 release date remains a mystery though we continue to see both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge releases make substantial progress behind the scenes and it should only be a matter of time before US carriers confirmed both the Galaxy S6 release date and Galaxy S6 Edge release date for their customers.

Earlier this week, Samsung announced two new flagship smartphones in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The company, and its partners, detailed tons of information about the two new devices though they failed to confirm everything. Missing Galaxy S6 release details include the Galaxy S6 price, Galaxy S6 colors for specific regions, Galaxy S6 storage details, and the Galaxy S6 release date for the United States.

While Samsung and its US carrier partners remain silent, we’ve started to see the US Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 release dates make substantial progress behind the scenes. Shortly after the announcement, we saw three devices (Verizon Galaxy S6/Galaxy S6 Edge, T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge) cruise through the FCC. FCC approval is necessary before these devices can be sold in the US.

Yesterday, we saw a number of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 models obtain their Bluetooth certifications, another necessary step toward release and the announcement of firm release date details. Today, the US Galaxy S6 release date has taken another big step as two more US-bound devices have crossed through the FCC’s clutches.

The U.S. Cellular Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have both passed through the FCC today on their way to shelves. U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier, has confirmed both devices for arrival in April though the carrier hasn’t confirmed a specific date. All eyes are currently on April 10th, the devices first day of availability. The door remains open for a US Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 release on that date though carriers still remain silent.

Carriers in the United States still haven’t confirmed many Galaxy S6 release details though with a month to go before the start of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release, there’s still a lot of time left for announcements and pre-orders. Last year, Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders didn’t start until the middle of March after an announcement at MWC 2014.

The all new Galaxy S6 comes with an assortment of upgrades including a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with 577 ppi, Exynos 7 octo-core processor from Samsung, 32/64/128GB of storage with no microSD card slot, Android 5.0 Lollipop with a new version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, a 16MP camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, Cat.6 LTE, and a 2550 mAh (Galaxy S6) and 2600 mAh battery (S6 Edge).

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge will come with similar specifications though its will feature a unique curved display that bends down over the two sides of the phone. Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Edge eschew plastic in favor of a bold new design that features a combination of metal and glass that also features Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is confirmed for all five major U.S. carriers but it’s not expected to arrive for smaller pre-paid and regional carriers. We could see announcements come late though niche Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices typically stick to major U.S. carriers.

The US Galaxy S6 price also remains a mystery though thanks to details out of Europe and T-Mobile, it looks like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both will be extremely expensive, at least off-contract. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge price points will likely join US carrier announcements about color, storage, and the Galaxy S6 release date in the days ahead.
