New Samsung Galaxy Lollipop Update Inches Closer

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update could soon be joined by another Samsung Galaxy Lollipop update in the United States.

Earlier this year, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop roll out was joined by several new Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades including updates for the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S4. The Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates have both hit the United States though users are still waiting for information about the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates.

Those updates may not be next in line though. A new Samsung Galaxy Lollipop update has been spotted in a certification for the United States, a sign that it could start rolling out in the near future and possibly beat the Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates to the punch in the US.

Blog of Mobile has spotted Wi-Fi certifications for the SM-G850A and SM-G850W. The SM-G850A is the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Alpha while the other model is the Canadian version of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Both models have passed their Wi-Fi certifications with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board. Thing is, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha Android 5.0 Lollipop update hasn’t started rolling out yet. Not in the United States, not anywhere.

We do know that a Samsung Galaxy Alpha Android 5.0 Lollipop update is planned for the future though and the confirmation came as no surprise given the age of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The device arrived shortly before the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge and like those two, it debuted with Google’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat update on board. While it’s not necessarily a flagship smartphone, it is a newer device and new powerful devices are typically near the front of the line when it comes to new Samsung Android updates.

AT&T and its Canadian counterparts have yet to confirm Galaxy Alpha Android 5.0 Lollipop updates though these certifications seem to have done the job for them. Now it should only be a matter of when and at this point, the Galaxy Alpha Android 5.0 Lollipop release date itself remains unclear.

AT&T continues to lag behind its rivals. While the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is widespread in the United States, the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is still missing in action. The carrier has started to talk about its Galaxy S5 Lollipop update but it still hasn’t outlined a specific release date. It has only gone as far as to say that the update is in testing behind the scenes. U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier, is also lagging with its Galaxy S5 Lollipop update.

While the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is widespread in the United States, the others aren’t. The Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update is limited to T-Mobile while the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is only available on Sprint. T-Mobile’s confirmed both a Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update though the updates remain in testing at Samsung ahead of their public releases.

These updates are in much better shape than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. The Galaxy S4 Lollipop still hasn’t been confirmed for the United States, officially or unofficially, and it’s still not clear when the popular former flagship will get Samsung’s latest software.

Earlier this week, Samsung finally started rolling the update out to the Galaxy S4 LTE model, a sign that we could see the company make a massive push in the near future. The Galaxy S4 LTE variant is one of the most popular versions of the former flagship and the start of its roll out is a sign that Samsung is finally starting to push ahead with the upgrade that started in late January.
